Nowhere to Run- Nowhere to Hyde? "Son of Dr. Jekyll"- Tonight!

Posted on April 13, 2019

It’s another “like father, like son” comparison tonight on MeTV-  though those pushing the family similarities are more sensationalists out to cause trouble- as the young offspring of the two-faced “good doctor turned savage monster” learns of his family heritage, and sets out to clear his father’s tarnished reputation- only to head down a similar sinister road- claiming his birthright as the “Son of Dr. Jekyll”!

The story opens as the senior Jekyll, after committing a horrendous act, flees from an angry mob – heading to his lab- and meeting his demise while trying to escape. Two of the doctor’s close friends –Utterson and Lanyon- witness the scene, and head back to the scene of the crime- finding  Jekyll’s now-orphaned baby son. It is decided that Utterson will raise the child, not letting him know about his horrid family history.

Thirty years have gone by- and young Edward is engaged to Utterson’s lovely niece Lynn. There is some bad news , though- Edward is being expelled from the science academy for performing unorthodox experiments! It is right about that time when Utterson and Lanyon decide that Edward should know the truth about his father- as the time has come for him to gain his inheritance. Edward gets the news, and the key to his father’s old place- and decides to move in. When he finds his father’s old laboratory- he feels compelled to continue his dad’s work- and prove that the formula he created could change human behavior- and that his father was indeed NOT a monster in real life. Of course, he is also battling public perception- while local “news” people set him up in what appear to be violent circumstances, causing his neighbors to be frightened that the son is indeed a successor to the evil Hyde!

He continues his experimentation- but other hidden agendas cause conflict for him, putting his career and life in peril! Has Edward used his father’s formula to go to the dark side of human nature- and again prey upon the frightened populace?

This 1951 film is thought to be a sort of sequel to the 1941 Spencer Tracy “Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde”- though it adds a twist to that film’s conclusion. We’ll introduce cast members, including Louis Hayward as the doctor’s son. We’ll also provide a new song, a less-than hair-raising product, and  another edition of the popular Sven game, “Too Drawn Out”!

We’ve been told that some providers are listing our show this week as the movie title instead of as “Svengoolie”- so, if you plan on setting your system to record it- PLEASE check how your provider has the show listed. We don’t want you to miss it!
