Okay- NOW It’s Over!!!

Posted on November 1, 2012

Check the calendar- November First. Officially, our Sven Halloween season public appearance tour is over. Our final day was action-packed though- as, I would think, any Halloween should be for one Mr. Goolie… I abandoned my coffin right before daylight to make a guest appearance with my two lovely friends, Jeanne Sparrow and Melissa Forman, on the “You and Me This Morning” show! They had me start off giving the weather forecast for the day, which was a disappointing forecast, since the cold temperatures meant wearing a coat over my costume when I went trick-or-treating! (Actually, I didn’t- but more about that later on…) I got to join Jeanne as she spoke with a nice young dietician lady about Halloween treats that were good for you (somehow, my repeated advice to add a Snickers bar to the ingredients of most of the treats didn’t seem appropriate)- then, we talked a little bit with both Melissa and Jeanne about my history, some of my celebrity fans, and what it’s like to have so many new viewers around the country. I got to meet the adorable Corri McFadden, who gave some great costume ideas that were flashy but not trashy (and was wearing the cutest skeleton pants I ever saw)! All in all, it was a fun visit, and I appreciate the ladies being so nice in making me feel welcome me to the broadcast! Afterwards, I shot a commercial plug for an upcoming November appearance (be watching for it later this month!) and then, it was time to go- trick or treating! However, it was kind of “reverse trick or treating”- because I joined some of our sales staff to bring some Halloween treats to various ad agencies that we work with! The treats included some cookies and a few rubber chicken key chains, along with autographs and photos with whoever wanted one! We hit a bunch of the downtown businesses, and it was a great time- first of all, a couple of the agencies were located high up in buildings right downtown, and had breath-taking views (if I worked at one of those places, I’d never get any work done- I’d be too busy looking out the windows!)Also, the view inside was often amazing, with the people working there wearing some pretty cool costumes. We had a Cleopatra, a military woman, a sheik, Paul Bunyon- and, funny, but a lot of the guys were dressed as business men! For once- not one person was dressed as Svengoolie- which may have been a good thing; the odd thing about Halloween is- some people saw me, and weren’t sure if it was really me! It was nice to see that they were really excited when it turned out it WAS me! Overall, that is a big part of the fun for me- the fact that these people are happy to see me. It’s so flattering to walk into the lobby of a building and have the security guards shouting out “Svengoolie!”- or, to be in an elevator- it stops at a floor, the door opens, and a person about to step in is surprised to see me standing there. We returned to the station in the afternoon, just in time for a little Halloween gathering of the staff, with a costume contest raffle. Of course, I wasn’t eligible. It’s so funny when people would sarcastically comment “oh, you dressed up today!” The way I look at it- it isn’t a costume- it’s a uniform. Anyway, that ended my 2012 Halloween season- with Halloween itself being a perfect ending!
