One Last Mummy- with Bud and Lou- Wraps Up the “Summer of Sven” Tonight!

Labor Day weekend is usually viewed as the end of summer by a lot of people- so, we'll wrap up the "Summer of Sven" with a thoroughly wrapped-up menace- tinged with some comic relief- as we bring you "Abbott and Costello Meet the Mummy" tonight!

In what was pretty much the last gasp of the Universal Mummy franchise (at least until the reboot in the late 90s)- and the last Bud and Lou film for the company- our hapless duo is trying to return to America- and try to get a job accompanying  a mummy specimen back to the States. Unfortunately, two rival factions have an interest in the mummy- since it supposedly has a sacred medallion that reveals where a tomb holding a vast treasure is located- one is lead by an evil business woman who wants the treasure-the other is a cult that protects the tomb. When Bud and Lou arrive to  volunteer for duty, the doctor who was looking for help has been murdered- and the mummy stolen! The medallion, however, is still around- and who ends up with it? Bud and Lou, naturally- and, on top of that, THEY are suspected of murdering the doctor!

Pretty soon, everybody is trying to get the medallion from the boys- but- when they are told it is cursed- they try to slip it to each other- which ends up in a rather indigestible situation-that concludes in the treasure tomb with a few mummies too many!

There are  some name inconsistencies in this film- not only for the Mummy and his great love, but for  Abbott and Costello as well- we'll explain it all, as well as  pointing out prominent cast members you might recognize. Look for some extra Sven fun along the way as well!

"Abbott and Costello Meet the Mummy" will close the final Saturday of the "Summer of Sven" tonight at 10 pm eastern and pacific, 9 pm central, or, check for what time  it runs in your area. For Chicago viewers, you'll be seeing "Curse of the Werewolf" at 11 am on WCIU, the U.

Though the Sven summer is ending,  next Saturday marks a new beginning- not only with a new themed month, but also with the introduction of -the brand new Sven coffin! Make sure you join us then, as well!
