Peter Cushing Faces Calcium-Claiming Creatures on the “Island of Terror”- Tonight!

Tonight on MeTV- the great Peter Cushing heads to a remote island  where dead bodies with unusual characteristics- relating more to what they DON'T include- have the local authorities stumped- with no one realizing that a threat created by science could wipe out the entire population of the “Island of Terror”!

Petrie’s Island  is completely cut off from the mainland, with only occasional visits from supply boats-  and the site of  a special laboratory working to find a cure for one of man's most insidious diseases. It's a risky enough proposition, made worse when the experimentation creates something just as horrid as the illness. The first clue that something terrible has occurred comes when a constable finds the body of a missing man- which appears to have no skeletal system left in it! The island's resident doctor can't begin to figure out why that would be- and leaves the island  in search of someone he feels may be able to help- Dr. Stanley,  a brilliant teacher and pathologist. Stanley can't fathom any natural event that would cause a body's bones to disappear,and suggests that they visit Dr. West, a specialist whose knowledge of bones might offer some assistance. When they arrive at his apartment, West is just getting rather comfortable with a leggy girlfriend! Regardless, he finds the case just as baffling, and his lady friend- who happens to be  a wealthy heiress, offers her help in getting to Petrie's Island as quickly as possible, by means of her father's personal helicopter- on one condition- that SHE accompany them! The speed of transport is almost as tempting as the winsome lass, and they depart for the island.

The trip is made, and, as they are dropped off, the copter ends up being called away- meaning that our visiting party has no way off the island for many days. Examining the body bereft of bones doesn't offer any new information- but the suggestion of calling on the prominent disease-researching scientist seems like a logical step in their search for answers. A visit to the special laboratory site reveals shocking devastation- and similar victims-and even as more boneless bodies being discovered,the answer to what they are looking for brings unspeakable horror- with the revelation of deadly creatures  on the loose unlike anything ever encountered in nature-  which begin multiplying  and threatening to  destroy each and every living thing trapped on the island, with no means of escape!

The claustrophobic feel of this full-color 1966 British production, along with the horrifically relentless creatures, definitely makes this an "edge-of-your-seat" thriller! Peter Cushing as Dr.Stanley is outstanding, as always, and we'll tell you about his fellow cast mates- plus, entertain you with  the usual  Sven stuff- including a product you may not want to have in your kitchen cabinet!
