Pip-pip, Cheerio, and "Darn-Darn-Darn"! The British Battlecry is "Munster Go Home"-Tonight!

Posted on November 6, 2021

Even though our “FrankenFest” ended last week- tonight on MeTV, we have a faux-Frankenstein monster again rampaging on foreign shores- and he’s bringing his family with him! It would appear that this creepy clan is out to invade English aristocracy-as Herman Munster arrives in Great Britain to claim his rightful inheritance of a title and the attached ancestral manor- resulting in an uprising among the local citizenry, and treachery from his own British relatives, raising the battle cry of-"Munster Go Home"!

This horror-comedy, with its roots in television history, comes close to the stature of Don Knotts’ “The Ghost and Mr. Chicken” as one of the most requested movies from our Sven library, which is why it usually airs once year! When Herman returns home from work one night, he is met by his family, seemingly in a serious mood about a crucial matter. The mood changes when Lily gives Herman the news that he has inherited his adopted family's estate in England- along with the official title of lordship! The newly-appointed "Lord Munster" and his family depart from their haunted home at 1313 Mockingbird Lane, and board an ocean liner bound for Great Britain.

Traveling on the high seas causes some high seasickness in Herman, who ends up looking even greener than usual. Good old dependable Grandpa has a potion in his bag of tricks, guaranteed to change Herman’s condition-but it ends up changing the vacuous vampire count himself instead- and not for the better! While all this is taking place, Marilyn, the Munster niece “cursed” with being a pretty young woman -with zero resemblance to any horror creature- seems to engage in a shipboard romance with a handsome English lad, with a beautiful car he’s taking home via the ship- but he ends up making Marilyn get cross with him. Let’s face it, the Love Boat, this isn’t!

Our attention shifts to the about-to-be-inherited Munster Hall in England where tension is building. The current residents- Herman’s spiteful British relatives - are dead set against Herman stepping in to take over the estate and the title of Lordship, infringing on their rights and station. They begin hatching nasty plots designed to stop their American cousin- permanently! When Herman and family finally make their arrival at Munster Hall, they are “greeted” by dastardly cousin Freddie, his sister Grace, and Aunt Effigie. On the very first night in the manor, the scheming British Munsters launch their scheme to frighten the American interlopers away- not realizing that scares and horror are a basic way of life for their American cousins. It’s decided that much more extreme - and deadly - measures are necessary in order to retain their home and ensure that the title of lord of the manor will end up with fiendish Freddie.

On their first day at the manor, Marilyn sets out on a bicycle to explore the local countryside- and quite literally runs into the patriarch of a neighboring estate. She is warmly welcomed to the gentleman’s home- until it is discovered who she is, since this upper-class family has a long-standing feud with the Munster family! Not only that- but she finds her shipboard Romeo makes a sudden re-appearance- and is the son of this family! As sworn enemies of the Munster clan, they no longer welcome Marilyn-who is quite happy to leave once she spots their offensive offspring,

Soon, the locals follow suit in making the Munsters feel like outcasts. It falls to Herman to redeem his family’s good name, and prove worthy of his new title, by winning the area's yearly road race - in spite of the opposing family in their feud, and the treacherous members of his own familial group!

This 1966 film was the first time fans would see the Munster family not only on the big screen, but also in color-as well as the first appearance of the famed “Drag-u-la” hot rod designed for the movie (and then brought into the TV show) by the late George Barris. We’ll run down the roster of the familiar TV cast-including our friend Butch Patrick as Eddie- and introduce the third actress to play Marilyn, Debbie Watson- along with familiar faces from TV shows like "Andy Griffith", "Hogan's Heroes", and "Chips" - plus more cast members including motion pictures stars and a horror icon! We’ll also give you a look at our legendary search for the Munsters' cars among all the historic and Hollywood vehicles at the famed Volo Auto Museum- and more!

"Munster Go Home" comes into your home tonight on MeTV at 8 pm eastern/pacific, 7 central- and, for those unsure where and when to tune in where you live- just check your local listings or at www.metv.com . Don’t forget you are invited to live-Tweet during the show along with fans from ll over the country on Twitter- using the hashtag #svengoolie -where we continue to trend among the most popular topics online. Our Chicago area viewers can get an encore of the sci fi epic “Frankenstein Meets the Spacemonster” at 11 am on our main local station, CW 26 !

Speaking of Frankenstein, thanks to all of you for making “FrankenFest” a success- we had great viewership for all (yes, ALL!) of the films! And again, we certainly missed spending Halloween season out on the road , meeting our fan and friends. We hope to be able to visit with you in person again soon!

Make sure you check out the Sven Holiday Shoppe (I have a shoppe?) here on our website- with a great new variety of items. A word to the wise-if you have an interest in the merchandise, order early – lately it seems items sell out pretty quickly!

Join us tonight on MeTV for Herman’s crash course in English- aristocracy, that is! ( And with him doing some driving, we do mean “crash”…)

SvenAdministrator & Svengoolie
It seems that you do know more about “Roland”, who later became “Zacherley”, It would be great if you could cut through the movies with some good gags of your own instead of the rubber chickens all the time. I think it would make for a better show and you a better character. I love the older movies like “The Headless Man” it’s in black & White, but that’s never stopped
you before. It has a great story with good effects, for that time. I could give you a long list of movies that your audience would enjoy.
I still love your show. I would really appreciate it if you could find & show "The Headless Man”, thank you for your time to read all of this. Have a good show tonight, I will be watching.

Doing better, thank you. Still some twinges here and there, but better for the most part.

Only two hours until I can’t post on the new blog. Work doesn’t understand when I start my Svengoolie convulsions around 9pm🤣

Work doesn't understand anything!!🤣🤣

There needs to be some sort of “reasonable accommodation” law to cover things like this. Said law should include a provision for a 2 hour viewing break, if a blogger is forced to work on Saturday night.
Shayla 35 months ago
Well, got to go. Goodnight fellow bloggers. Hope I can get on tomorrow. If not, just know that Shayla has her airlanes cleared, laughing/choking/crying at the 3 Stooges, and finishing the night with TIM on Svengoolie!!

Unfortunately, I am not usually awake then, or dozing off. However, I see that December 31 will be a Friday, so I will try to be the hare who welcomes the new year in! I wish you luck tonight!

Before we leave our friends the Munsters, I'll post this:
The model kits for the Munster Koach and the Drag-u-la in the collector tin came out in 2010, I think. I used it as a backdrop for our dinner shot on Saturday, but it is really too cool to hide behind food. And the resin bust is one that Hubby bought last month when we went to his MMSI show.
Shayla Katink 35 months ago
So cool!
MrsG Katink 35 months ago
Love how you , and Hubby , get in the spirit of things and bring us right with You !
Thanks Katink ~ good luck tonight !

Katink Shayla 35 months ago
Thanks, Shayla! Even though Hubby's model stash runs mostly toward military history, there are some pieces that fit Sven movies, too.

Somehow I guess they thought he'd be spookier if he never said a word. (And that way he wouldn't flub lines. Especially after lunch.) There's a goofy-science explanation in the plot.
Petethepepper 35 months ago
I know it’s an old movie but I would greatly appreciate it if you can show the movie: “THE HEADLESS MAN”
It’s in black & white and very old but as I remember it, the movie was very good. I will look forward to it.
Shayla Petethepepper 35 months ago
Hi Pete! It's nice to finally meet you! I've gotta tell ya something. I know you movie suggestions for Sven. However, posting them here is not the best route. You gotta actually send him an email about your requests. Hope this helps!😆

Here's your-late- tech fact of the day!
November 12, 1936: Alan Turing delivers to the London Mathematical Society his paper “On Computable Numbers, with an Application to the Entscheidungsproblem.” In the paper, Turing described the Universal Machine, later to be known as the Turing Machine, an idealized computing device that is capable of performing any mathematical computation that can be represented as an algorithm. In subsequent decades, it became a conceptual framework for modern computers.
KeithJ Shayla 35 months ago
Ever see the film "The Imitation Game" about Turing? Mostly historically accurate, stars Benedict "Penguin" Cumberbatch.
Shayla KeithJ 35 months ago
I want to so bad! He CANNOT say Penguin!!🤣🤣 I do love Ben though.
KeithJ Shayla 35 months ago
I recommend the film, it's about the Turing machine being used to break the enigma code in WWII.
Shayla KeithJ 35 months ago
I read all about it. I'll let ya know when I do watch it.
