Reptilian Romance And Vengeance With Venom In "Cult of the Cobra"- Tonight!

Posted on August 3, 2024

Tonight on MeTV- we concentrate on scales- no, not the scales of justice from “Perry Mason” ( cue the music!) but the scales that appear when a sultry young woman moves into the hood ( and sometimes HAS a hood) of a group of veterans who have returned home after witnessing the secret reptilian ritual of a mysterious cult! Revenge is the motive when a slinky she-serpent stalks those who saw the secrets of the "Cult of the Cobra"!

In this 1955 chiller, the above-mentioned servicemen, who are about to be shipped home, decide to have one final foreign fling-before leaving the mysterious East. Hoping for something special, off the beaten path, that most visitors never experience, they get just such an offer from a contact at the local bazaar- and soon arrive, in disguise, at a secret location to witness a cult of snake worshipers conducting a ritualistic ceremony.

 by

Unfortunately, not having the sense to remember flash photography is forbidden, one of the servicemen ignorantly snaps a photo, which reveals the presence of the unwanted strangers to the cult members! A reptilian riot breaks out, with the boys fighting to make their escape- but, just before they do, one of the high priests places a curse on them! They head out of the temple and seem to have escaped, with one member of the fleeing G.I. group somehow injured, while a mystery woman is briefly seen in the shadows.

Later, at the hospital, the ailing GI seems well on the road to recovery- and ready for the trip home- BUT-a bizarre occurrence ends up reversing his condition-permanently!

Heartbroken, his comrades return to the states and to their civilian lives. Tom and Paul, two of the boys, resume their previous romantic competition for the heart of the lovely Julia. She makes her choice between the men- accepting the proposal of Paul, and "Dear Johnn-ing" Tom. As he sulks later, he hears a nerve-chilling scream! Investigating, he discovers it's a beautiful new neighbor, who claims she has encountered an intruder in her apartment- who is now gone without a trace. Tom, primed for a rebound from his loss of Julia, is immediately attracted to the mysterious Lisa- who runs hot and cold(blooded), which confuses him as to how she really feels about him.

The following days bring more sadness, as more of the GI buddies are getting picked off, one by one. Finally, the remaining returnees recall that the curse was placed upon them at the temple- never realizing that someone in their very midst has the power to become a deadly serpent- whose mission is not only to destroy them- but also someone they love!

We have dug up this vintage Sven show, since it's one that newer viewers haven’t seen. It’s got a roster of many familiar stars from classic shows seen on MeTV, and also includes femme fatale Faith Domergue, an actress who's shown up in several of our horror flicks, and is often cited for her romantic history with billionaire Howard Hughes. Most people, from our promo, realize that the high priest who initially curses the unwanted visitors to the temple is another vintage TV show’s supporting character- really! I'm not just talking through my shoe! (Ahem...) You will also be seeing our old coffin and set, now in the inventory of Chicago’s Museum of Broadcast Communications, and you will catch some dated references- along with traditional Sven snake shtick, a visit from the Imp ( no, I’m NOT his uncle) and some classic Sven sequences. Plus, since the movie winds up early, since so many of you have enjoyed the Svensurround segments we show, we will bring you our version of a Commando Cody serial episode!

"Cult of the Cobra" slithers onto your screen tonight on MeTV at 8 pm eastern/pacific, 7 central- please check for channel and time in your area - in your local listings or at www.metv.com . Remember that MeTV invites you to live-Tweet during the program, using the hashtag #svengoolie. In Chicago, our viewers get a special encore of last week’s MeTV offering, “Killer Shrews” on our main local station, CW26, at 11 am.

If you are in the Chicago area and are reading this early enough, you can still see me at the Flashback Weekend horror convention in Rosemont, IL- please check my schedule, posted under the “appearances” tab here on our website. Right now, it will be the only public appearance until our usual Halloween season tour.

Join us tonight on MeTV for a different kind of tour that begins with invading a viperous venue- then proceeds home for some reptilian romance and vengeance with venom!

Hi Kyle! 34°F in Fargo tonight. I'm glad I don't mind fall- we've got a few more weeks of heat coming, but in Fargo, August is the beginning of the end! Hope you and the Bad Cats are well!

Hope you are well. I'm not concerned about the comment thing- I'm a greasy bad cat and value the Svensters and my car.

RobB- when the connecting rod exited the block, the original 5.7 LS1 was done forever. The 6.0 LS3 in it now has 56,xxx miles, a lot of them 1/4 at a time, and late night top speed runs to keep the fart can import boys in their place. And more than one crotch rocket. I have a new 7.0L LS7 ready, but suspension and drivetrain stuff is all apart now. Soon ...

Damn a 7.0!!!!!!?

Blueprint Engines aluminum block balanced to .001 gram rotating assembly with H beam rods and Mahle gas ported thin ring low friction pistons. TrickFlow LS7 aluminum heads. Lotsa really race capable street durable valvetrain gear. I'm mildly embarrassed that my parent's first house, where I grew up, cost less than I have in this engine. Dyno paperwork says 605hp at the crank with 545lbft of torque available at 3800rpm, 7250rpm redline. Sorry, man, it's like a new Mom talking about the baby. 😜

And when you see this, or think about it, the sound effect of a toilet full of $100 dollar bills should accompany anything you think. I love the car, but live that flushing sound.

But you know, out of all of these different shows, Sven has the best movies BY FAR.
Smilodon BEATNGU2 1 month ago
Me too. Sven earned all the awards by his work ethic and knowledge. No one else comes close- but I'd rather kiss Elvira!😸

I’m watching a show about Catalina Island, 26 miles West of Los Angeles, and the focus is on Avalon Bay. Hmmm, my MeTV channel says “Avalon”. Catalina Island and Avalon were (are?) owned by the Wrigley family from Chicago. Doesn’t MeTv originate from Chicago? Is there a connection here?🤔🤔

Good evening everyone!
I wish you all good luck in securing the first blogger trophy. One of these days we should have a contest for only those that have never won. I would be ineligible having won 2 a long time ago. Grand kids and their dad visited me 2 weeks ago. My arms are a mess of bruises from IV’s

Good to see you and the whole Aceman crew💕
RobBarnes Smilodon 1 month ago
Those IVs are terrible, I wish they could just let you swallow a pill or some liquid and let it get in your bloodstream that way. 2 Years ago I spent 6 day and 5 nights in a hospital with Double Pneumonia (no COVID thank God). They had such a hard time finding a vein they had to use some machine that let them see under my skin. Once they finally hit a vein they inserted whatever so they could keep using the same vein for all the anti-biotics they pumped in me. I had a HUGE bruise for two weeks and looked like a damn junky.

Sympathies, I relate. Pretty much same here, though for a while longer (and don't forget the blood samples). Not for some time now, fortunately.

Mikeyyy, it's a hobby that I couldn't afford if I didn't do almost all my own builds and repairs. If you seriously race a car originally sold as a street car, you're gonna break it. Multiple times. It's the price of a hobby I love. Some people go to Brainerd, MN to fish or hunt. I go there to see how good a builder and driver I am. Sometimes, my pride causes my wallet to be kicked to the curb😜
PatS Smilodon 1 month ago
Glad you're still with us after all that!

The car blew up, but only my pride was hurt. Well, and the wallet took a hot, too.

Were you able to rebuild the engine? I have always loved Goats late 60s early 70s.
