See the “Monster Without Make-Up” Tonight in “House of Horrors”!

Posted on January 24, 2015

Tonight's Sven show on MeTV is  a must-see -you get  the chance to see Hollywood's famous "Monster Without Make-Up", Rondo Hatton, in one of his most famous roles; a look at the story of his life that may give you some insight into the man and his condition; and a special feature in which you can see how the new Sven dungeon set was created! It's all a part of tonight's feature- "House of Horrors"!

We meet a nearly destitute artist, who sees a sliver lining ahead as he prepares to sell one of his works to a customer- only to have the disparaging words of an art critic put an end to the sale! The artist Marcel is considering ending it all, when he rescues  another unfortunate- a strange misshapen man of few words. Struck by  the man's unusual looks- Marcel decides to make the fellow the subject for a new piece of artwork- at first not realizing that the man is actually a psychotic serial killer!

Marcel decides that his new friend can help him get revenge against those who cause him pain- and keeps  the burly fellow's existence a secret, while continuing to create a bust of him. meanwhile, a lovely young lady journalist is brought into the mix- she knows Marcel, but is more intent upon getting  one particularly nasty critic to lay off her artist boyfriend, whom he has also  passed negative judgement upon.

When art critics suddenly become an endangered species, and the young lady's love becomes a main suspect- she starts snooping to help clear  her guy- and the real murderer and his contorted confederate  add a few more names to their "hit list"!

This 1946 film has Rondo Hatton reprising his early role  as "the Hoxton Creeper"in the Sherlock Holmes film "Pearl of Death"- and his cold and deadly attitude really is pretty chilling. We'll tell you a lot about Rondo, with some information generously provided to us by film-maker Fred Olen Ray; and also fill you in on other notables in the cast. Lots of Sven shtick, a song featuring our own Doug Graves doing a trumpet solo- AND- the special feature mentioned above- showing the creation and evolution of the brand new Sven dungeon set created by our friends  from the Acme Design Inc. company of Elgin, Il.- with a close-up look at some of the many unique features!

You'll see all this and more in "House of Horrors" -tonight on MeTV at 10 pm eastern and pacific, 9 pm central, or, check local listings  for run time in your area. Chicago gets a second look -if they can see 'em- at "Abbott and Costello Meet the Invisible Man"- at 11 am on our sister station, WCIU, the U! Yes, that's the show with the highlights of last year's "Flashback Weekend" costume contest!

By the way- I should mention- we will occasionally get messages from our loyal viewers when our program is pre-empted or interrupted on their local station. Please know that we have no power over that- and often, don't even know that it's happening. When this happens, PLEASE contact your local station - not the cable or satellite provider, the actual station- that carries MeTV in your area, and let them know- POLITELY- that you are unhappy about not seeing the Svengoolie show. They need to know that viewers don't appreciate the pre-emption. We appreciate your support!

Join our house party in the "House of Horrors" tonight- and learn the story of Rondo Hatton!
