Some Laughs After a Tough Week with “Invisible Woman” Tonight!

Posted on April 20, 2013

Between all the tragedy and inclement weather this week- we want to lighten the mood tonight with a fun favorite- "Invisible Woman"!Not to mention- a brand new Sven mail segment- the first in over 4 months! This 1940 film is a departure from the main Universal "invisible" movies, in that it's a sci fi comedy, with plenty of familiar faces (ones you can see!), no Griffin family members, and no bandage-wrapped kisser. A wise-cracking fashion model, tired of her cruel and nasty boss, volunteers for a wacky inventor's experiment, funded by a playboy who's just found out he's broke! When the experiment renders her invisible, she wants revenge on her old employer- but a gangster who's been exiled from the country wants his lackeys to steal the invention so he can return to the country safely -and invisibly! You get some fine comedic actors in this film, besides Virgina Bruce as the lead- Charles Ruggles is the flighty acid-tongued butler to the rich guy, and Shemp Howard- one of my favorite Stooges- is one of the gangster's thugs!(Perhaps he should hire more carefully!) Add to that the great John Barrymore and Oscar Homolka- and Margaret Hamilton - all of whom we'll tell you about- and you've got a great cast- plus, we'll explain how some of the invisible effects were pulled off in those days. We hope this will help take your mind off some of the bad stuff for a little while- so, join us for "Invisible Woman" on Svengoolie- tonight on Me-TV- 10 pm eastern and pacific, 9 pm central, or check your local listings for the time in your area.If you're out somewhere that they have sports on, after the game, encourage the people in charge to flip on Sven! In Chicago, WCIU- the U- has the encore of "The Mole People" at 11 am! A quick reminder- next Saturday afternoon,April 27th, you can meet me at Chicago's C2E2 convention at McCormick Place.I will only be signing from 4:15 to 6 pm, so please get in line early, so you won't be disappointed. We most likely will be able to sign only one item per person, due to the length of the line- and, yes, you can take a photo with me! I'll post more info during the upcoming week.
