The Ape Girl is Back- and SHE TALKS !!! “Jungle Woman” Tonight!

Posted on March 14, 2015

I promised you the next chapter in Universal's trilogy about the ape mutated into a woman- and tonight, you get part 2 of the saga of gorilla glamor girl, Paula Dupree in "Jungle Woman"!

We witness a shadowy attack- and then find ourselves at a coroner's inquest- as kindly Dr. Fletcher is accused of murder, and must tell his side of the story regarding what really happened. Thus begins  the recounting of how he was actually present at the event that wound up  the first movie about Paula Dupree -"Captive Wild Woman"! He was in the circus audience as animal trainer Fred Mason was doing his dangerous "mixed big cats" act- and a storm caused a tent pole to crack- thus sending the whole place into chaos! The doctor watched as, just as Mason was about to be mauled by the beasts, the incredibly intelligent ape Cheela appeared out of nowhere to save him- only to be shot by an over-anxious guard!

The doctor reveals that he took possession of the supposedly dead ape for research- but noticed a very slight spark of life! He managed to keep the ape alive, but somewhat comatose. He also purchased the sanitarium of Dr. Walters- the sinister genius who had originally experimented on Cheela (unbeknownst to Fletcher, these experiments  concluded in  Cheela becoming a beautiful woman!) As he ponders Walters' notes, and tends to his patients- a slightly mentally-challenged trustee/ patient named Willy comes in to say that the ape has suddenly vanished! the two of them go out to search the grounds- and Fletcher is astounded when Willie brings him an unexpected find- a beautiful young woman! They have no idea who she is, or where she came from. The doctor brings the silent beauty intro the sanitarium, and tries to solve the riddle of who she is.

Soon, while tending to her, he is visited by his pretty daughter Joan and her boyfriend Bob- a handsome young man who catches the eye of the mystery woman- who actually comes forward to meet him- and seems to emerge from her state of shock! They learn that she is Paula Dupree- but still have no hints of where she came from.

Willy seems enamored of her, but she brushes him off, having her own infatuation with Bob. Soon, some strange violent events  occur, and suspicions about Paula, and even Dr. Fletcher arise- and, after a mysterious disappearance- a real danger stalks the sanitarium!

This sequel has some familiar faces (as well as a load of familiar footage) from the first movie- we see John Carradine in flashbacks, as well as Milburn Stone and Evelyn Ankers, who also appear in new footage. J. Carrol Naish is the well- meaning Dr. Fletcher- and Acquanetta makes her second appearance as Paula Dupree-whose voice you WILL hear in this installment. We'll tell you all about the cast, and some additional information about Acquanetta- that comes to us from someone who actually met her! Plus- a favorite Sven segment we get asked to do again and again- (and we'll DO it again- and again!)- along with play-by-play of a fierce competition, and , of course- a Sven musical number about the movie! We even throw in a much- requested seasonal classic that we try to run every year at this time.
