The BOO-Nanza Heads to Britain for "Munster Go Home" and "Berserk!"- Tonight!

Posted on October 10, 2026

Our Halloween BOO-Nanza double feature this week brings us to England- once for an insane inheritance- and once for big top terror- as we go from that clown of a creature Herman Munster to murderous mayhem for ringmistress Joan Crawford- it’s “Munster Go Home” followed by “Berserk!”

Our first feature is, as I’ve said before, one of our most-requested movies- another horror comedy featuring the 1960s First Family of Fright- the Munster clan. Somehow, Herman has inherited an English manor and the title of Lord Munster- so, he, wife Lily, son Eddie, Grandpa and niece Marilyn head overseas to claim their inheritance. Among some bizarre happenings aboard the ship, Marilyn meets a wealthy young man- and goes from gaga over him to detesting him!

Meanwhile, at the about-to-be-inherited Munster Hall in England, Herman’s spiteful British relatives -the current residents- are dead set against Herman stepping in to take over the estate and the title of Lordship, infringing on their rights and station. “Dead” ends up being the operative word as they begin hatching nasty plots designed to stop their American cousin- permanently! Dastardly cousin Freddie, his sister Grace, and Aunt Effigie launch a scheme to frighten the American interlopers away- not realizing that fright and horror are a basic and cherished way of life for their American cousins. They decide that much more extreme - and deadly - measures are necessary if they wish to retain their home and ensure that the title of lord of the manor will be passed on to fiendish Freddie.

As fate would have it, Marilyn sets out on a bicycle ride to explore the local countryside- and quite literally runs into the patriarch of a neighboring estate- only to find this upper-class family has a long-standing feud with the Munster clan! Not only that- but her shipboard Romeo makes an appearance-he’s the son of this family! The sworn enemy family no longer welcomes Marilyn-who is quite happy to leave once she spots their offensive offspring.

All this leads to the Munsters feeling like outcasts as the locals are turned against them. It all comes down to Herman having to redeem his family’s good name by winning the area's yearly road race -not only taking on the feuding family, but also the treacherous members of his own familial group out to sabotage him!

This 1966 film was the first time fans would see the Munster family in color, and on the big screen. It also provides the appearance of the famed “Drag-u-la” hot rod designed by the late George Barris. We’ll run down the roster of the familiar TV cast-including our friend Butch Patrick as Eddie- and introduce the third actress to play Marilyn, Debbie Watson- along with familiar faces from TV shows like "Andy Griffith", "Hogan's Heroes", and "Chips" – and one famed horror film icon! We’ll also bring you an encore of a favorite bit where various beloved TV characters visit Herman’s funeral- and explain some English terminology.

We then move on to our Sven Squad hitting the center ring with Joan Crawford as the owner and ringmistress of a travelling circus whose main attraction seems to be murder in – “Berserk!” Joan is Monica Rivers, who presides over a circus that tours Great Britain-which she co-owns with the disgruntled Dorando. The reason for his unhappiness is a tragic- and highly suspicious high wire accident- and Monica’s rather cold response to it. She feels it will pay off in publicity- and that disgusts Dorando enough to ask her to buy out his part of the show. Monica refuses and instead decides to hire a new high wire artist.

The new hire is handsome young Frank Hawkins- a skilled daredevil whom Monica appreciates for more than his acrobatic skills. The happy excitement of this new act is eclipsed when there is another death- and the circus crew is beginning to think Monica has a hand in it to generate more publicity. Especially vocal about that theory is the voluptuous assistant to the knife-thrower, Matilda- who also has her eyes (and, she hopes, more) on Frank! To add to the tension- Monica’s semi-estranged daughter, Angela, shows up at the circus, having been thrown out of school for bad behavior. With nowhere else for her to go, Monica’s cold heart melts a little- and decides she can stay on with the circus. Soon, there is more murder, more accusations, and more fear and unrest among the circus folk- with Monica in the spotlight of suspicion!

This 1967 film was actually Joan’s next-to-last big screen appearance. It utilizes a real travelling show- the Billy Smart circus. The Squad will introduce the performers, including Ty Hardin, Diana Dors, and familiar face Michael Gough- and Gwengoolie could easily replace Joan, dealing with Nostalgiaferatoo and Ignatius Malvolio Prankenstein- the Imp- as her center attractions!
