The Sven Squad Hits Primetime to Prove "Earth Girls Are Easy"-Tonight!

Posted on July 26, 2025

Tonight on MeTV- instead of their usual second half of a double feature status- I’ll be stepping aside so that the Sven Squad- Gwengoolie, Ignatus Malvolio Prankenstein (also known as Imp) and the semi-clueless Nostalgiaferatoo can hit prime time for a very special screening of an ‘80s sci-fi comedy with big name stars and even musical numbers! Based on a song by comedienne (not Downtown) Julie Brown, it’s the story of a trio of fuzzy aliens who are attracted to the earth after seeing our planet’s women- and crash land their spaceship into the pool of a young woman who’s just suffered heartbreak! The aliens become her house guests and attempt to blend in with human society- as they get the idea that “Earth Girls are Easy”!

We see a manicurist Valerie getting a makeover in an attempt to rekindle the spark of romance with her fiancé. Then, however, she discovers that he has been cheating on her- and tosses him out of their home.

Meanwhile, three hirsute aliens from a distant planet, Mac, Zeebo, and Wiplock, are roaming the universe in their spaceship. They have had no female company in a while, and when they pick up broadcasts from the earth that show them terrestrial females- they decide to investigate these “hairless” beauties.

Unfortunately, it’s a rough arrival on Earth- as they crash into the swimming pool of Valerie’s home! Ther poor frightened woman gets over her fear and actually brings them into her home, while calling her surfer dude pal Woody to come drain the pool, so the aliens can repair their ship.

Things get complicated when Valerie’s ex wants to return home, and she ends up bringing them to hide the beauty salon where she works. She and her salon boss decide to try to help the three aliens blend in a little better, and shave off their fur- making them look much more human! This, along with them learning a great deal from watching TV (I always said our work is educational), leads to them heading a local nightclub, where the women find them fascinating- and Valerie and Mac find themselves attracted to each other.

Things get tense when Valerie’s ex creates problems, while the aliens create their OWN problems, including running afoul of the law! Can these strange visitors get their spaceship back in working order before their time on earth gets them imprisoned -or worse?

This 1988 film has a lot of star power – and I don’t mean the spaceship. The cast includes Geena Davis, Jeff Goldblum, Jim Carrey, Damon Wayans, our friend Michael McKean, Julie Brown, and other familiar faces, and includes a slew of original pop songs.

Our Sven Squad will fill you in on the production of this film and its actors- and have an interview with Julie Brown herself. They also feature a special guest- actor-impersonator Jim Meskiman (wait until you find out who his real-life mother is!). Of course, the Squad will be carrying on in their usual manner- so be prepared!

“Earth Girls are Easy” runs on MeTV tonight at 8 pm eastern/pacific, 7 central time. You can join in the social media commenting on either Twitter/X or Bluesky- just include the usual hashtag #svengoolie. Chicago area viewers will be seeing an encore performance of the dark and sinister Bela Lugosi/Boris Karloff chiller “Black Cat” at 11 am on WCIU the U.

Okay- since I know it’s going to happen- with the Squad on in primetime, I’m sure this will again start the rumors and the recurrent question- “Is Svengoolie retiring!?” Please take note- I AM NOT RETIRING! We are giving viewers who may not be able to stay up late for the double features the chance to enjoy our talented new cast members.

Please note that next weekend, I make my annual appearance at the Flashback Weekend horror convention in Rosemont, IL. It’ll be a great time, with profession photo ops, autograph signings, my usual hosting of the costume contest and more- not to mention the appearance of our pal Robert Englund- Freddy Krueger! For more details, please check here on our website under “appearances”.

Meanwhile, tonight marks the appearance of the Sven Squad in the Sven timeslot- with spacemen, songs and snickers (not the candy bar)!
