The Ultimate Halloween Treat- Karloff’s “Frankenstein”- Tonight!

Posted on October 31, 2015

Tonight on MeTV- you just might catch me , showing up briefly here and there during "Super Sci Fi Saturday Night"- but you definitely will want to catch our movie- perfect for Halloween night- the original Boris Karloff 1931 classic - "Frankenstein"!

We glimpse the sadness of a burial in a graveyard- followed by young Henry Frankenstein and his hunchback assistant Fritz desecrating the new grave to retrieve the corpse! we learn that Henry is stockpiling body parts for his grand experiment- to create life in a dead body, using his own bizarre electrical contraptions! The one ingredient missing- a viable human brain for Henry's creation- and Fritz, sent to a medical school  to retrieve one- ends up making a fatal mistake in the one he chooses!

Henry's fiancee Elizabeth , meanwhile, has convinced Henry's old professor, Dr. Waldman (who sadly knows what Henry is up to) to accompany her and a friend to Henry's laboratory- where they witness his fevered attempt to create life during a massive thunderstorm- with the result being movement of the assembled body's hand- and Henry's legendary cry of "it's alive!" before collapsing.

From there on, it's a roller coaster of  thrills and fright- as the Monster is revealed, and through mistreatment and misunderstanding, becomes more and more dangerous- eventually culminating in his escape into the countryside- which results in death and destruction- and the tragic disruption of Henry's wedding day!

We are so happy to have a better quality copy of this classic for you-and, of course, plenty of information  about the production and cast, including Karloff as the definitive Monster, with Colin Clive, Edward Van Sloan, and more- along with some Sven fun for your trick-or-treat bag- we even have some incredible costume fun  to amuse you! As I said,  this seems to be a truly perfect Halloween feature!

"Frankenstein" airs tonight on MeTV at 10 pm eastern/pacific, 9 central, or please check for time in your area in your local listings. Please tune us in at whatever party or nightspot you may be attending! Our Chicago area viewers will get an early Halloween treat with the repeat performance of "Dracula" at 11 am on our sister station, WCIU- the U!

During the day today, I again visit one of our favorite places- the Volo Auto Museum for a rare Halloween visit- and tonight, we'll hit Country Club Hills to wind up our Halloween tour! You'll find the info under "appearances" here on our site.

Have a great Halloween- make sure you come share the scares with us! (Oh- and remember to turn your clocks back tonight! The extra hour of sleep is on us!)
