There’s No Way Off the “Island of Terror”- Tonight!

Posted on May 10, 2014

"It Came from the Drive-In" month brings us to a remote island with no contact with the mainland- which wouldn't be so bad if a deadly creation wasn't threatening the population- as  Peter Cushing struggles to save humanity on the "Island of Terror"!

This creepy full-color feature has a scientist on Petrie's Island hard at work to cure a deadly disease- but instead unleashing something just as deadly.  This first becomes apparent when a missing man's body is discovered- without any bones in it! A local doctor heads off island to ask for help from a brilliant London pathologist, Dr. Stanley (Cushing), who can't explain why  a skeleton would just disappear- and enlists the aide of a bone specialist, Dr. West -arriving to ask his help just as West is getting cozy with a luscious young heiress, who insists on going back to Petrie's Island with them- in exchange for having her dad's helicopter transport them there!

They arrive, and the copter is called away- leaving them virtual prisoners on the island. Examining the boneless body gives them no clues- so they go to the laboratory of that disease-fighting scientist- only to discover mass devastation within. Before long, more boneless bodies turn up- and truly frightening encounters begin, revealing the monstrous menace- "silicates"- that are spreading- and could wipe out every living thing trapped on Petrie's Island!

This 1966 chiller definitely will give you the claustrophobic feeling of being trapped somewhere with no escape! We'll tell you about the cast, introduce you to a new food product, bring you a new song, and feature a meeting of the minds- or,more accurately- boneheads!

"Island of Terror" is on Me-TV tonight at 10 pm eastern/pacific, 9 pm central, and check your local listings for when we're on in your market. In Chicago, you can see the 1950s classic "It Came from Outer Space" at 11 am on WCIU, the U.
