What a Valentine! “Captive Wild Woman” on MeTV Tonight!

Posted on February 14, 2015

Tonight on MeTV- we present a valentine who might steal your heart- or snap your spine! Meet the "Captive Wild Woman"- a combination of beauty AND the beast!

This is actually the first film in a three-movie series done by Universal- known as the "Ape Girl" saga. We find  daring animal trainer Fred Mason returning from a safari with a load of new animals for his circus act- including a highly intelligent and friendly ape named Cheela! He's excited about the new act he has in mind, combining types of big cats - but his girlfriend Beth is having a rough time- her sister is ill, and needs to be taken to a specialist.

That doctor is one Sigmund Walters, who has done amazing things with people suffering from glandular diseases- and he's very interested in treating Beth's sister Dorothy. However, this doctor has ulterior motives- he  is experimenting with transplanting human glands into animals! he finds out about Cheela the ape when visiting Beth at the circus office where she works  for Fred's boss- and decides that Cheela is a large, strong animal who would be perfect to withstand the trauma of his experimentation!

The end result? He manages to transform- through some devious acts- Cheela into- a beautiful woman who does not speak, nor recall her previous animal life! The doctor names her Paula Dupree- and, when he takes her to the circus grounds, she displays almost supernatural power over the big cats- so much so that Fred has her hired to assist him in his dangerous wild animal act.

Everything seems fine- until Paula, still carrying the affection for Fred that she had in her simian state, sees that he loves Beth- which triggers a frightening transformation of devolution- which releases her animal instincts and endangers lives!

This weird tale stars John Carradine as the mad doctor, and the lovely Acquanetta as Paula Dupree- along with a cast that includes Evelyn Ankers and Milburn Stone. We've got plenty of information for you about the players and the movie itself- plus, some fascinating facts about Acquanetta's life story. There's plenty of Sven shtick as well- including an encore of  a much-requested commercial parody, and a vintage suitable for Valentine's Day commercial- plus, a new song and some "On the Road" fun with a return to the Volo Auto Museum!

And- if you've never seen the "Ape Girl" series of films- we will be bringing you the other two parts of it in upcoming months! (Acquanetta only stars in this one and the next one- in the third, another actress takes on the role of Paula Dupree.)
