What Starts with “C”- But Can’t, Very Well? Cyclops- “Dr. Cyclops”- Tonight!

Posted on January 2, 2016

We start off 2016 tonight on MeTV with a technicolor terror tinged with tinyness- as a group is stranded in the jungle after being diminished in size by the treacherous "Dr. Cyclops"!

We join some travelers summoned to the Peruvian jungle by the eminent- but reclusive- scientist, Dr. Thorkel - who needs some assistance with a project he is working on. Lovely biologist Mary accompanies the august Dr. Bullfinch, along with last minute substitute player mineralogist Bill Stockton, on the trek to Thorkel's  compound, located deep in the jungle, lead by the suspicious Baker, who's most worried about his mules being taken care of by the renters.

They arrive, and are met by the extremely near-sighted Thorkel- whose poor vision is precisely why he has enlisted their aid. His weak peepers keep him from clearly seeing what's in his microscope, and asks his visitors to help identify a certain microscopic structure- but- when they do- he thanks them and abruptly tells them they should be on their way back home!

Our party, having traveled so far, are rather insulted to be so forcefully dismissed- and try to stay around and find out just what Thorkel's mysterious project might be. After a radioactive discovery, they sneak into Thorkel's  private laboratory- only to be caught in the act by the spectacled genius! After his initial fury- he seems to calm down, and , under the pretense of explaining  a certain piece of  equipment, locks our friends- and his own assistant- in a chamber of his own design which transforms them all to- action figure size!

The shrunken folk must now battle not only the fiendish Thorkel- but also the dangers of the world itself for such minuscule beings. Can they somehow escape the doctor's deadly wrath- and find a way to return to full-size?

This 1940 film, brought to us by the same director who helmed "King Kong" is a lot of fun- and quite a visual treat. We'll talk about the production and the players, and provide the usual Sven-tertainment- including some new celebrity interviews from  a past convention visit!

"Dr. Cyclops" can been seen ( even if he couldn't, very well...) tonight on MeTV at 10 pm eastern/pacific, 9 central, or check your local listings. Chicago will enjoy an encore of  "The Mummy's Hand" at 11am on our sister station, WCIU, the U.

Hopefully, you are signed up for our monthly newsletter, and have received the January edition. If you aren't, please sign up-it's free- here on our site, so you can get the Sven news and monthly movie schedule starting on February 1st.

Make sure to keep an eye on "Dr. Cyclops" tonight!
