Wrapping Up May- and Turning Up the A-C with “Abbott and Costello Meet the Mummy”-Tonight!

Posted on May 28, 2016

Memorial Day weekend is often pretty hot- much like the desert, where, tonight on MeTV, things will get hot for a certain dim-witted duo when they run into an embalmed entity, as well as murderers, thieves, and an ancient cult- when "Abbott and Costello Meet the Mummy"!

Bud and Lou are stuck in Cairo, Egypt, and hoping to find a way to get back to the states- and stumble upon the perfect way- acting as couriers for archaeologist Dr. Zoomer's find- a mummy  - that he is  sending to America. The mummy- Klaris- supposedly has a hidden medallion which reveals the location of the tomb of Princess Ara, which contains untold riches.

The boys aren't the only ones to get wind of Zoomer's find-  criminal femme fatale Madame Rontru and her henchmen want to find Ara's treasure- and members of the cult of Klaris, who have protected the mummy for centuries, want their bandaged  brother back! They all arrive at Zoomer's  house- resulting in murder, mummy-nabbing, and -of course- the medallion accidentally ending up in the hands of -who else?- Bud and Lou!

This begins a game of cat and mouse, with several rats in the mix- as the crooks try to get the medallion, the cult resorting to any means to keep the ancient secrets safe- and things getting a little more complicated when  it's revealed that Klaris is alive- kept so by his followers- and cannot be stopped while protecting the treasure of Ara! There's going to be a Sahara showdown in the hidden tomb

This 1955 monster-meet-up was actually the final A & C film for Universal- and, it's loaded not only with the duo's typical gags, but also with a lot of familiar actors-whom we'll fill you in on- as well as a cameo by Lou's daughter, 16 year old Carole- plus, the show has lots of Sven fun for you, including a new song.

"Abbott and Costello Meet the Mummy" comes to you tonight on MeTV- 10 pm eastern/pacific, 9 central, or check your local listings. Chicago viewers will get  a sssecond ssserving of "Sssssss" at 11 am on WCIU, the U!

Join us for the mummy and the dummies tonight- and, on a more serious note:

This weekend- please remember the men and women who have served  and given their all for our country.
