80% similar. Pretty ok I guess. What about "Die Hard" on this list of great Christmas movies? One of the all- time best. I always get the Christmas spirit when the bad guys get it but good. I have a machine gun. HO HO HO!
I refuse to believe people liked this 1954 A Christmas Carol over The Bishop's Wife. This version of A Christmas Carol was a made for TV hour long version. Now, if the comparison were between The Bishop's Wife and the 1951 version of A Christmas Carol starring Alistair Sim, I could understand that.

Planes, Trains, and Automobiles is such a fabulous film.
John Candy was great !
The action scenes too.
One time, I had to divert to JFK, and needed to share a cab to get back to where my car was at the Newark, NJ airport. Four people, all strangers, without a lot of money. We shared our cab. Our taxi got caught in traffic
“ close “ to the exit for the Newark airport. Naturally the taxi meter kept running. We compared our funds and voted to pay the driver and get out with our luggage on the side of a snowy slushy freeway and walk up to the exit and over to the airport. We did it, and it reminds me
of this movie.

My favorite Christmas movie (and book) of all time is Debbie Macomber's "Call Me Mrs. Miracle." Such a cute story! Lovely. Very sweet. It's a TV movie. It's on GAC Family.
60% similar. I love "Miracle on 34th Street". I saw both movies. The 1947 movie is the best. The 1994 version is okay, but just not nearly as good as the first movie.
"Elf" is hilarious! And "A Charlie Brown Christmas" is adorable, sweet and wholesome.
They forgot "The Sound of Music." Isn't that billed as a Christmas movie?

60% similar. Some were hard to pick. Not a fan of either Nightmare Before Christmas (it’s okay) nor Polar Express which I find kind of creepy. A few were eeny, meeny, many, moe.

My mom's classmate at Hammond High, Jean Shepherd, wrote A Christmas Story.
Flick and they guys are real people, they are in her yearbook which Shep signed.
"Flick" for Flickinger. I talked to Shep twice, he appears in the movie, the bearded man
who tells the kid not to cut in line to see Santa.

Wow, Mike that is so amazing! That must have been so cool to talk with him. And I do remember that part in the movie. I love that movie.🎅
Shep was first a humorist on WOR radio, from the 50's to early 80's, every night he'd
tell stories like the several he melded together to make the Christmas Story.
He wrote many books as well of short stories. Lots of material there for sequels to
A Christmas Story, I am surprised some smart producer hasn't jumped at the chance.

Great story! He was a great story teller. I have listened to him in otr. I believe he had a show for years. I read his book too. It was interesting that stories were mashed together for the movie.
Mrs. Harris,
I'm not surprised you heard him up in the Great White North, WOR is one of the most powerful stations in North America. At 10:15 at night Shep's program was heard in many places far beyond
its normal signal range as many stations signed off earlier in the evening.
Plus local stations in far off areas also ran it.
He did a TV series for New Jersey Public television. He considered the state "America writ
small", with its varied geography and many different types of people with traditional
heartland festivals like the Flemington Fair which he immortalized in a much lauded
Playboy article.
On more than one occasion he talked about my hometown of Westfield deeming it the
beginning of "John Cheever Country" that ran up to Conn.
He enjoyed doing his talks at Jersey venues, I saw him at Princeton, Union College,
he came to the small auditorium every year at Summit High because he loved the
town. He did a whole show on Route 22 and the Leaning Tower of Pizza as emblematic
of what he lovingly called "slob culture".
