"I know what time it is. I don't need a bloomin' cuckoo clock."
The visual effect for Losira appearing and disappearing was unique.
Matt Jefferies designed a "rocker plate" for the artificial planet set in order to mimic an earthquake.
The access tube Scotty crawls into was also new set created by Matt Jefferies.
Jefferies also created the new set for the central chamber on the planet along with the glowing cube mechanism.
It was interesting to see Kirk and company react to Losira while they were in the midst of being transported. Usually we see the crew members standing stock still and expressionless on the transporter pad just before they transport.
The James Blish novel adaptation had a very nice line of dialogue from Kirk that was not included in this episode in response to Mr. Spock's "Beauty is transitory" statement.

D.C. Fontana was so unhappy with how her script was rewritten for this episode that she removed her name from it and used the pen name Michael Richards instead.
