A classic sitcom gets an unlikely LEGO set for its 25th anniversary
This TV collectible will "be there for you" on September 1.
With LEGO construction kits, kids (well, and adult collectors) can snap together space ships, cityscapes, castles and… sitcom coffeehouses? Yes, that's right, to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Friends, LEGO is releasing a Central Perk set complete with Rachel, Ross, Monica, Phoebe, Joey and Chandler. Oh, and Gunther.
And when we say "set," we mean that literally in the television sense. Little black plastic Klieg lights shine stick up from the top, as if you were inside the Warner Bros. studio in Burbank, not a Manhattan beanery.
Our favorite aspect of this commemorative toy is the depiction of the cast. The little yellow Ross head manages to perfectly capture his perpetual state of anxiety and befuddlement. At last, there is a plastic representation of "The Rachel" haircut.
You can even have Phoebe sing "Smelly Cat" outside with her guitar.
The LEGO Friends Central Perk set hits shops and online on September 1. It is priced at $59.99. Which sitcom would you like to see turned into a LEGO set?

NONE!
Long ago and far away, the first thing we did with new LEGO sets was
throw away the instructions! Never wanted them. The endless hours
of fun came from our creativity and imaginations.
SO many choices! "Oldies" set - Gilligan's Island, that way I could REALLY see what's up with The Professor, Gilligan, Mary Ann, & Ginger. "Modern" set - TBBT, because I am still in mourning knowing there will not be another Season Premier. "Spin Off" sets - All in the Family & The Jeffersons
2.The Addams Family
3. The Munsters
4. The Monkees
5. Mr. Ed
6. Green Acres [PJ and BH as well.]
7. Gilligan's Island
8. Get Smart
9. Laugh-In {I know "technically," this is not a sitcom, but it still falls under the comedy category. I was envisioning the Joke Wall as to what the kit looks like w/Dan Dick, et al.}
10. DVD w/Dick tripping over the ottoman.
Whatever {if Lego decides to do this again;} the kit shouldn't just be a bunch of plastic bricks snapped together, it should also be animated {For example: The Skipper hitting Gilligan with his cap, Rob tripping over the ottoman.} There should also be sound bytes: Laura saying "Oh, Rob!" The Skipper saying: "Well Gilligan, you've done it again." Max saying his famous catchphrases.
This is what Lego should have done w/Friends kit. There should be a button one can push, so you can hear Phoebe sing "Smelly Cat." {I know the story said "you can even have Phoebe sing "Smelly Cat" outside with her guitar." It doesn't make it clear-not to me anyway-that you can actually hear her like I suggested.
