Playing a Batman villain allowed Anne Baxter to embrace her inner child

With the way they tug at your heartstrings, it’s no wonder that serious actors win all the awards. However, many people believe that life simply isn’t as fun without a touch of silliness every now and again. As an actor, Anne Baxter cherished the opportunity to let loose and have a bit of fun every once in a while. Batman gave her the opportunity to enjoy herself on a television set.
Baxter previously starred in films like The Magnificent Ambersons (1942) and All About Eve (1950). Later in her career, she guest-starred as Olga, Queen of the Cossacks.
“I’ve always wanted to do something where I could speak with a Russian accent,” said Baxter during an interview with the Daily News. “This is my first chance.”
However, Olga was not Baxter’s first time playing a Batman villain. Previously, the actor played Zelda the Great, another Batman villain foiled by the dynamic duo. Obviously, Baxter enjoyed herself so well that she was more than happy to return to the series. “I love doing this show,” said the actor.
Acting in Batman helped Baxter express a more childish side of herself. “The thing about playing these Batman villains,” said Anne Baxter during an interview with the Copley News Service, “is that they appeal to the child in all of us...this kind of a part is, quite literally, child’s play. But still not easy, if I make my point.”
