Here's why Egghead was considered ''the ideal Vincent Price character.''

“This Egghead fellow is a bit of a kook," said Price.

Although Vincent Price established himself as a master of the horror genre in films like The Raven (1963) and The Tingler (1959), he didn’t limit himself to strictly starring in the strange and terrifying. One of the actor’s best-known comedic roles was that of Egghead in the popular series Batman.

While it may seem like a far jump from Price’s previous characters, the actor begged to differ. “Egghead is intellectual and thoroughly, despicably ignoble - the ideal Vincent Price character,” said Price during an interview with The Copley News Service. Despite the comedic tone that Batman had achieved, Price always loved playing a man of evil, no matter where the character came from. Furthermore, Price seemed to delight in the silliness of Egghead, taking pride in the more ostentatious elements of the character.

“This Egghead fellow is a bit of a kook, less menacing than dominated by others, but a villain nonetheless,” said Price. “Every pun and wordplay has been put to use here. All having to do with Egghead - I say things like eggs-actly and eggs-citing and eggs-traordinary.”

Price preferred to keep his acting range broad, starring in any and all programs that he felt were interesting. “I’ve really tried purposely to vary my career,” said Price during an interview with The Sault Star.

The only downside to playing the iconic Batman villain? “I had to get here two hours early for makeup to have my head put on,” said Price during an interview with the Copley News Service.
