Anthony Zerbe admitted he hadn't seen a single episode of Harry O before he joined the cast
Later, Zerbe would win an Emmy for his portrayal of Lt. Trench.

Anthony Zerbe showed no fear. The actor was more than willing to jump into the deep end of the performing pool.
Case in point: The actor previously appeared as Lt. Trench of Harry O, a performance that earned him an Emmy Award.
During an interview, however, Zerbe admitted that before joining the cast, he had never seen an episode of the popular crime show.
“Of course, I’d never seen the series,” Zerbe confessed during an interview with The Idaho Statesman. “I never watch television. There are too many things to occupy my mind.”
However, Zerbe found that he could get along well with series star David Janssen, who played Harry Orwell.
“I think we— David Janssen and I — really began to hit it off well toward the end,” said the actor.
The two were able to move as one fluid machine. Zerbe was allowed the creative freedom to develop his character as he saw fit. Janssen followed Zerbe’s lead, and the two created lightning in a bottle on set.
“I was allowed to give my own interpretation as to how to play Lt. Trench,” said Zerbe. “As I see my role, Trench is not impressed with Harry. I cut out a lot of dramatic pauses between Trench and Harry because I could see Trench giving him nothing but short shrift. When I changed a line of dialogue, Janssen would respond in his own way. We worked that well together.”
