While Richard Kimble was busy chasing after the One-Armed Man in The Fugitive, Lieutenant Philip Gerard was wearing himself out chasing after Richard Kimble!

According to a news article, Gerard was more than just a character that Morse played in The Fugitive. The role actually drew the ire of viewers, an issue that affected his real life.
