Bill Bixby's former TV son campaigns to get the actor a star on the Walk of Fame
Brandon Cruz of 'The Courtship of Eddie's Father' is raising money to honor his "second father."
Bill Bixby headlined four television series between 1963 and 1982, My Favorite Martian, The Courtship of Eddie's Father, The Magician and The Incredible Hulk. Incredibly, the actor does not have a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
A former co-star is looking to amend that oversight. Brandon Cruz was the titular Eddie on The Courtship of Eddie's Father from 1969 to 1972. He was an adorable kid with a gap in his front teeth, freckles and bowl of black hair. The child actor grew quite a bond with his onscreen father and was later quoted as proclaiming, "Bill Bixby was like my second father." In the 1980s, Cruz became a punk musician. Later, he married and fathered two children of his own, giving his son the middle name Bixby.
Last week, Cruz launched a Gofundme campaign to raise the $65,000 necessary to purchase Bixby a star on the Walk of Fame. He writes:
Since he passed in 1993, at the age of 59, many people have asked me, "why he doesn't have one?" I honestly didn't know. I looked into it, and you basically have to buy one. Well, now is the time for all of Bill's fans to chip in, and to help honor the man who brought them so much joy and laughs through his appearences on all of his hit shows, the movies with Elvis, and so many others.
In a handful of days, he has raised a little over a grand. With Bixby now a fixture in our Super Sci-Fi Saturday Nights with The Incredible Hulk, we thought it was only right to help spread the word. Come to think of it, Lou Ferrigno doesn't have one, either…
