Buddy Ebsen couldn't choose between The Beverly Hillbillies and Barnaby Jones
"Both had their points," said the actor.
Buddy Ebsen was a performer on Broadway before his migration to film, which meant that plenty of his on-screen performances incorporated his flair for singing and dancing. Though he had appeared in movies like Captain January (1936) and The Girl of the Golden West (1938), he endeared himself to audiences everywhere on the small screen, starring in shows like The Beverly Hillbillies and Barnaby Jones.
“I’ve done mostly television things,” said Ebsen during an interview with The Tennessean. “267 episodes of Hillbillies and 165 Barnabys.”
But when pressed, Ebsen refused to choose the superior of the two iconic shows.

Though his career was full of fond experiences, Ebsen was no stranger to sudden failures. “You have ups and downs,” said the actor. “It’s not all smooth sailing. You get some highs. I have a number of occasions that were memorable.”
Most importantly, Ebsen saw every good experience as a victory in his career. “Every job that turns out well is a happy memory,” said the actor.
