Despite her stardom, Julie London lived a relatively normal home life

The actor preferred her family to any role she played.

Whether you remember Julie London for her jazzy dulcet tones, singing on the stage, or saving lives as Dixie McCall in the hit television series Emergency!, you probably fell in love with her at first sight.

A woman of many talents, London was known for her charm and grace. As someone who made her mark in the entertainment industry, she easily could have spent her life basking in the well-deserved praise of her adoring fans.

Instead, London took a more grounded approach, electing to live a relatively normal life at home with her husband— and fellow performer— Bobby Troup.

London defended her decision in an article for the Transcript-Telegram. The actor believed that with too much stardom comes the risk of an inflated ego.

"In the world of make-believe— the world in which I make my living— it is sometimes difficult to keep your perspective," wrote London. "Unfortunately, too many performers begin to believe this and they bask in this phony limelight of kudos so long that they get an egotistical, third-degree burn."

While London argued that she was a dedicated performer, she was aware her career was simply a job, and that the real dedication would come in spending time with her family.

"When I perform as a dramatic actress on the screen or as a singer in a club, I try to throw myself completely into the role or mood of the situation," she said. "But when the cameras stop rolling or the music stops playing and the spotlight is turned off, I am me - Julie London. Or, to be more accurate, Mrs. Bobby Troup, wife and mother."

London explained that she did all the typical things a mother would do, including playing with her children and helping them with their homework. "We do all those normal things at our place that most families do," she wrote. "I may sound old-fashioned, but our home is our castle. I believe that family comes first. It's a warm feeling to watch your children grow and let them lead normal lives."

Let's not forget that before London was married to Troup she was married to Jack Webb, whose Mark VII Limited co-produced "Emergency!". Also, Troup wrote that now legendary song "Route 66"--which was done by a lot of singers and bands, including Depeche Mode.

..and Julie's smoky rendition of "Cry Me A River" is a classic.... BTW, I prefer Nat "King" Cole's rendition of "(Get Your Kicks On) Route 66"...
