Here's Alan Alda's advice for getting older

Growing old is mandatory. Growing up might also be a good idea, depending on your field of employment.

Spoiled milk. Fine wine. Whichever way you choose it, aging is inevitable. For most of us, though, it's better than the alternative.

Youth is wasted on the young, for we don't truly know what we've got 'til it's gone. But with age comes perspective. We learn where our true priorities lie. We learn who and what is important to us. Better still, we learn to stop trying so darn hard to impress.

Luckily, we're not alone in getting old. Many have traveled that same path over the hill before us.

For those of us trying to cling to days gone by for fear of what lies ahead, the great Alan Alda gave some fantastic advice in a 2019 chat with Closer Weekly. While Alda may not have the medical expertise of his M*A*S*H character Hawkeye Pierce, he does have plenty of experience getting older.

So, what guidance did Alda offer?

"Well, first try to stay alive!"

This is, of course, very good advice (while also easier said than done).

"The second thing is to be curious. I've just always been curious. I don't know what I'm going to do next. I try to be happy wherever I am."

There you have it, folks. Curiosity killed the cat, but it may stave off the human reaper for a few years. At the very least, an interested person will live a fuller life and will enjoy the little things between here and the end of the road.

Thanks.
Loved - and NEEDED - to read this article at this point in my life.
Besides his wonderful acting/directing/etc, I always enjoyed his scientific/intellectual programs on PBS.
