The life of a child star can be a lonely one. Yes, you're adored by thousands of television viewers at an incredibly young age, but stardom can be isolating for a young person. Although Jill Whelan was proud to play the role of Vicki Stubing in The Love Boat, she was acutely aware that her appearance on primetime television put her under a microscope.

Speaking frankly during an interview with The Argus of Fremont, Newark, and Union City, a 17-year-old Jill Whelan confessed that she was afraid she was not afforded the same kindness typically offered to regular people her age.

"In every situation, in everything I do, each decision must be the right one," said the actor. "While other teenagers can learn from their mistakes, mine are publicized, and I have to live them down. Luckily, I haven't made too many."

Against all odds, Whelan worked hard to live the life of a regular teenager, with a few exceptions here and there.

"I have a pretty normal public life," said Whelan. "People usually leave me alone. And when they do ask for an autograph or stop and say hello, well, I think that's nice. It doesn't bother me at all."

Despite Whelan's talent and love for performing, like any young person, she wasn't too keen on limiting herself.

"I'm not interested in a degree in the theater arts," said Whelan during an interview with The Argus of Fremont, Newark, and Union City. "I want to be able to learn and eventually do things in all areas of the industry."
