Kent McCord on why he preferred simple storylines on Adam-12

Sometimes, simple is better.

Enjoying your job doesn't mean that you have to enjoy every single aspect of it. As much as some actors love performing, there are definitely some aspects that they could live without.

Kent McCord enjoyed working in television, and he certainly had a gift for it. However, during an interview with the San Angelo Standard-Times, the Adam-12 actor revealed that his love for acting began and ended on screen, as he had a less-than-favorable experience acting in the theater.

"I found out what boredom meant last summer," said McCord. "I went out with Marty and Lois Chiles and some others on the Kenley circuit in the Midwest. We did the old play, Tunnel of Love, for five weeks."

McCord's poor experience wasn't a result of any annoying costars or unexpected issues; rather, he found acting in the theatre to be a little too monotonous for his tastes.

"After I got my part down, the whole experience was just a big bore to me," said the actor.

While McCord valued variety, he also seemed to prefer a certain degree of simplicity when it came to episodes of Adam-12.

"All I can say is that I'm enjoying my work more this season than any time since the first year," said McCord. "I think the reason is that we're getting better scripts. We've gone back to the original concept of the show - a simple concept, just a day in the life of two cops out cruising in a black and white - and we had sort of gotten away from that in the last few seasons."
