Kevin Tighe hurt his back doing a stunt for Emergency!

Tighe was willing to give it all to the television series.

For how capable John Roderick and Roy DeSoto seemed while viewers were watching Emergency! their actor counterparts seemed to lack their grace and agility.

During an interview with The Wichita Eagle, Kevin Tighe, best known for playing DeSoto, confessed that he and his costar, Randolph Mantooh, were often prone to accidents while on set.

The actor was incredibly candid. "Off-camera, Randy and I are two of the clumsiest people on television," Tighe said.

In fact, one such industry had lasting effects on Tighe's body. "Last season, I had my back in a brace," he said. "During one show I had to drag two boys up through a manhole and wrenched my back."

That wasn't the only issue that plagued the actor while filming. "Then I burnt out my nerve endings and tasted metal for a week after an underwater scene when one of the arc lights was grounded to the tank," he said.

But for how awful these incidents sounded, Tighe took it in stride, as he wasn't the only one suffering while on set. "But those things happen," he said. "Randy just got over a case of poison oak."

Tighe saw these minor injuries as lumps that he was willing to smile through, given just how much promise Emergency! had as a television series. "It's a documentary show," said Tighe. "It's progressively getting a better style. Of course, we have more money to work with now that it's a success."
