Parley Baer was accosted by a woman in a butcher shop because of the way his character treated Andy Taylor on The Andy Griffith Show
Don't mess with Andy.

Look, you can do a lot of things in this lifetime. But one thing we'd never advise you to do is hurt Andy Griffith, even if that pain is merely fictional.
Parley Baer was a talented actor, but while he played many roles, he wasn't frequently recognized in public.
"I'm known from coast to coast as 'What's His Name'!" said Baer during an interview with The Denton Record-Chronicle. "You've probably never heard my name - but you'll recognize the kisser...I'm recognizable - but largely ignored - like street signs in your hometown."

Viewers may remember that Mayor Stoner frequently found himself at odds with Sheriff Taylor, played by Andy Griffith. The tense relationship got Baer into some real-life trouble when a woman approached him in a butcher shop. According to another interview with the Denton Record-Chronicle, the woman took him by the arm and admonished him for Stoner's behavior. "I could just shake you for the things you do to Andy [Griffith]," she said.
Baer was grateful for the notoriety, both positive and negative.
"I'm just grateful I'm recognized at all," said Baer. "The ego in every person would like to have their name recognized."
Ultimately, Baer was simply grateful that he had an opportunity to do what he loved: Acting.
"For 40 years, I've been able to earn a living doing things I like best to do," said Baer. "I feel sorry for people who don't like their jobs."
