Ricardo Montalbán on the importance of keeping professional while performing
"Professionalism, to me, is a beautiful world," said the actor.
Ricardo Montalbán was a man of various talents. The actor starred in popular films like Escape from the Planet of the Apes (1971) and Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan (1982). In addition to a rather successful acting career on Broadway, Montalbán also starred in various television programs like Fantasy Island. In the series, Montalbán appeared as the mysterious and elusive Mr. Roarke.
Throughout the many phases of his career, Montalbán understood that no matter whether he was acting on stage or on screen, it behooved him to remain respectful. Plenty of actors allow fame to go to their heads, letting their ego deter them from doing a good job. Montalbán understood that respect was the foundation of any working relationship. As an actor, he owed it to his peers to work hard and remain mindful of others.
“Professionalism, to me, is a beautiful world,” said Ricardo Montalbán during an interview with The Palm Beach Post. “It means you come to work prepared and on time, not having been drunk all night. Not only do you know your lines, but you worked on them, contributed something to them, and you are pleasant on the set. Most importantly, you don’t tell me your problems, because once you tell me your problems, they become my problems and I have enough of my own which I wouldn’t think to burden you with.”
Not only was Montalbán highly regarded by fans, but he was also well appreciated by his co-stars.
