Rod Serling said that to be remembered as a writer was an honor
Serling wasn't just a writer; he was THE writer.

Plenty of people fondly remember Rod Serling as a master of horror and science fiction. As the creator of The Twilight Zone, Serling helped usher in a new era of television, using his episodes to make meaningful statements about the society we live in.
In addition to his work as a writer, Serling was also a producer and served as the frequently seen narrator of The Twilight Zone. The creator was also a father to two daughters.
During an interview with The Plain Dealer, Anne, one of Serling's daughters, offered a peek behind the curtain at who her father truly was.

According to Anne, her father was little like the serious man he frequently seemed to be on television. "His dad voice was very different from his on-camera voice," said Anne. "He didn't talk in those clipped tones around the house. He didn't talk through gritted teeth."
According to his daughter, Serling was just like any other loving father, despite his fame. However, those who know Serling understand why this makes sense. Serling never cared for fame or notoriety in his present. Rather, Serling wanted to be known simply as a writer. He wanted his impact to last for years after he was gone.
"I just want them to remember me a hundred years from now," said Serling. "I don't care that they're not able to quote a single line that I've written but just that they can say, 'Oh, he was a writer.' That's sufficiently an honored place for me."
