Getting a compliment is always nice, but when that compliment comes from someone that you look up to, it's that much more impressive. As the director of films like The Raven and A Bucket of Blood, Roger Corman was an impressive director and is still idolized by horror fans to this day.

However, Corman wasn't just a talented filmmaker. He was also a leader to other fledgling filmmakers. One of these filmmakers was Ron Howard.

Today, Howard is known as an incredibly talented director with hits like Splash and Solo. But all those years ago, Howard was simply a young man trying to make the transition from actor to director.

Corman assisted Howard in getting the opportunity to direct Grand Theft Auto, his first film.

During an interview with The Sacramento Bee, Corman had nothing but wonderful things to say about Howard. Despite the fact that it was his feature directorial debut, Corman said that Howard had a command of the film set beyond his years.

"Ron was the most self-assured director I've ever worked with," said Corman. "He showed up on the set the first morning, and said, 'The camera goes here, the lights go here, call me when it's set, I'm going to get a cup of coffee.' And everybody just looked around, astonished."

For his part, Howard was meticulous about the way he worked as a director.

"I have a theory that as a director I should come in with a plan, a foundation," said Howard. "How I'm gonna shoot things, what needs to be accomplished, what we need to capture in the movie. And then I hope someone else will come up with something that will work within that plan. There are so many ways to get to the same place that if it's a flip of the coin, you're better off using somebody else's ideas. It keeps everybody interested, it keeps their head in the picture."
