This was the important advice Debbie Reynolds gave to Cindy Williams when she became famous
The iconic actress gave Williams a few words of wisdom.
Fame can be a whirlwind, wrapping actors up in acclaim, only to drop them at the next moment. While being a celebrity can be intoxicating, young actors are always advised to protect and save the wealth they earn. Usually, these lessons come from older actors who have learned their own lessons about success and are ready to impart wisdom to a younger generation.
Cindy Williams was still fairly young when she became successful in show business, starring in Laverne & Shirley. The seemingly overnight success of the series was overwhelming for Williams, who spoke to the Knight Ridder News Service.
"This business is sort of scary, especially if you're a single woman," said Williams. "I'm afraid I'll wake up one day and have to hitchhike to work."
At the time, Williams was working on the film Suddenly, Love. Film producer Ross Hunter gave her a firm warning.
"You're in danger in this town (Hollywood) and in this business," he said, "because you make it so fast, and you can lose it just as fast."
Hunter wasn't the only one who gave Williams a piece of advice. Iconic actress Debbie Reynolds actually advised Williams in her financial affairs.
"Debbie Reynolds shook her finger at me and said, 'Save it. Save every penny of it!'" Williams said. "She frightened me, so I've been putting my money in the bank."
Still, the savings did nothing to curb Williams' anxieties. "I keep being afraid it will all go away," she said.
