Meet Scott Fortner: Inside the Collection
A collection that’s pure Monroe magic.
May. 31, 2026
Scott has collected Marilyn Monroe memorabilia for years. He first discovered her at age 12 and was instantly captivated by her boldness, elegance and larger-than-life presence.
What started with watching her films and collecting books eventually grew into something much bigger. As Scott got older, he became fascinated not just with the icon the world knew as Marilyn Monroe, but with the woman behind the spotlight: Norma Jeane. To him, Monroe was more than a glamorous screen persona.
Today, Scott owns more than 1,000 pieces connected to Marilyn’s life and career, making this a truly historic collection and a remarkable piece of pop culture history. From movie memorabilia to personal belongings, every item is a sparkling diamond in the collection.
Take a look!
1. Marilyn Monroe’s Phone Book
This is Marilyn Monroe’s personal phone book from 1962, filled with the names and numbers of the people closest to her life and career, from directors and family members to famous friends and Hollywood insiders.
One especially headline-making name stands out: Robert F. Kennedy, whose personal phone number is listed inside.
The phone book was not sold with all of its contents fully revealed, so Scott uncovered many of these hidden treasures only after purchasing it.
According to our expert, the piece could be worth as much as $100,000.
This isn’t just Marilyn Monroe history, it’s pop culture history. Hidden inside these pages are the private connections of some of the most iconic names of the era, making this little book a direct line to Old Hollywood.
2. "The Prince and the Showgirl" Costume
This is Marilyn Monroe’s costume from The Prince and the Showgirl, in which she starred opposite Laurence Olivier in 1957.
According to Scott, many people assume Monroe was plus-size, but the measurements of her clothing tell a different story. She stood around 5-foot-5 and reportedly weighed about 117 pounds. Scott owns pieces with 24- and 25-inch waists, showing just how petite she really was.
Scott purchased the costume at auction, and it became the first major Marilyn Monroe costume piece in his collection. The fan is included as well and was used by Monroe as a prop during the film’s ballroom scene.
According to our expert, the costume and fan together could be worth around $200,000, especially because both pieces remain in remarkable condition for their age.
3. "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes" Script
This is Marilyn Monroe’s personal script from one of her most famous films, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes from 1953.
The film includes the iconic scene where she performed "Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend," one of the most legendary moments in Hollywood history.
The script contains Monroe’s handwritten notes, and her lines are circled throughout the pages. According to our expert, this is one of the most important scripts tied to one of her most famous films. You could say this script is worth its weight in diamonds.
Scott purchased the piece at auction, where it was not identified as Marilyn’s personal copy. But the evidence was written all over the page.
According to our expert, the handwritten pages alone could be valued at around $10,000 each, potentially bringing the total value to as much as $150,000. This piece shines bright like a diamond.
4. Marilyn Monroe’s Personal Wool Suit
This was Marilyn Monroe’s personal wool suit, which she frequently wore in 1955 and 1956. It became one of her signature looks and remains an iconic part of her classic style.
The suit was designed specifically for Monroe by George Nardiello, giving it major historical and pop culture significance. This wasn’t just a fashionable outfit, it was tailor-made for one of Hollywood’s biggest stars.
Strands of Marilyn’s hair are still attached to the wool fabric. Scott has intentionally left them untouched because they make the piece feel even more personal and connected to Monroe herself.
It took him from 2006 to 2022 to fully recreate the entire look.
According to our expert, this item would be worth around $200,000. This piece is tailor-made for Hollywood history.
5. Marilyn Monroe’s Personal Letters
These are incredibly rare and unique items that hold a special place in Scott’s collection. This is a personal letter that Marilyn Monroe sent to her former father-in-law in 1962.
Scott says he has only seen a handful, no more than five, letters written by Monroe on her own personal stationery. Even more remarkable, he also owns the response letter that was sent back to her.
These letters capture a deeply personal moment in her life, making this pair far more than just Hollywood memorabilia.
According to our expert, the pair of letters would be worth around $20,000.
6. Marilyn Monroe’s Pucci Top
This was another one of Marilyn Monroe’s personal Pucci blouses, and according to Scott, it is the most iconic and important piece in his collection.
Green was reportedly Monroe’s favorite color. She was buried in a green Pucci dress, and she was photographed wearing this blouse during some of the final months of her life. Monroe also rehearsed “Happy Birthday, Mr. President” in this exact blouse before the famous performance at Madison Square Garden.
The blouse even still contains a dry-cleaning tag with Marilyn’s name inside. According to Scott, this is the piece collectors ask about more than any other because it has become so closely associated with Monroe herself. Still, he says he would never sell it.
According to our expert, the blouse could be worth around $500,000.
