Tori is the internet’s leading authority on The Wizard of Oz. She hosts The Oz Blog, where she shares all things Oz across Facebook, TikTok and Instagram. But her love for Oz doesn’t stop at the screen.
There’s no place like home for Tori, whose house is filled with more than 3,000 pieces of Oz memorabilia spanning more than a century.
Tori’s collection includes everything from a first edition of the original Oz book to stage-worn costumes from the Wicked musical and beyond. Her collection celebrates nearly every iteration of the Oz universe.
Like many fans, Tori has a personal connection to the story. She first saw The Wizard of Oz when she was just 2 years old. She was drawn to the film’s bright colors, beautiful music and timeless themes of family, journeys and self-actualization.
Now, Tori has one of the most wicked Oz collections around. Take a look!
1. 1939 Movie Cast Autographs
Tori loves the classic 1939 The Wizard of Oz, and who doesn't? She had always wanted signatures from the original cast, so her collection is right over the rainbow.
She has a Bert Lahr signature that was a gift from her husband. His autograph is quite rare. She also has an autograph from Judy Garland, complete with a photo and date, which she found at an online auction. Her final featured signatures are from Ray Bolger, who played the Scarecrow, and Jack Haley, who played the Tin Man.
According to our expert, two of the biggest signatures in her collection have been certified authentic and are worth $3,000 together.
For any Oz collector, having a few signatures that tie back to the original film is an important way to follow the yellow brick road back to where it all began.
2. Wicked Stage-Used Costumes
These are stage-used costume pieces from Wicked the musical. Tori has seen the Broadway production 26 times and the touring production once, but that number has probably gone up since this Collector's Call episode aired!
The collection features costumes from the Scarecrow and a Flying Monkey, both of which she purchased at an online auction. The details are stellar, even if they look a little creepy out of context.
According to our expert, the value comes down to how prominent and recognizable the characters are. He estimates the two pieces are worth about $2,000 together.
It’s a collection that proves Tori has been Defying Gravity when it comes to her love of Wicked.
3. Wizard of Oz First Edition Book
This is a very special piece and the holy grail for many Wizard of Oz collectors. It’s a first edition of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, published in 1900, and is specifically a first edition, second state of the novel.
“Second state” means the book was printed a second time, but it’s still considered part of the first edition. Some edits were made in this second printing, making the book an especially interesting piece of Oz history.
Tori found the book three years ago, and she also has all 14 Oz books in first-edition form.
According to our expert, condition is key. Even with some damage, the book is worth about $3,500, especially with the continued popularity of Wicked and The Wizard of Oz today.
4. Tin Man Squeeze Toy
This is a vintage squeeze toy featuring the Tin Man from The Wizard of Oz. It was originally designed to be squeezed, but these days, giving it a squeeze might make it fall apart!
According to Tori, there isn’t much information available about the item. She has never seen another rubber toy made for The Wizard of Oz from this era, and if others did exist, they have most likely fallen apart over the years.
Tori believes the toy was made around 1940, shortly after the film’s release, possibly as a promotional item. It may be small, but it’s a rare piece of Oz history.
Our expert estimates the piece is worth around $1,000. For a collector, that’s a pretty heartwarming find, even if the Tin Man himself could use a little oil!
5. Limited-Edition Wicked-Themed Makeup Kit
This box belongs to Glinda and is a PR kit that Ariana Grande’s makeup line sent to creators to promote Wicked.
Tori loves Ariana Grande’s portrayal of Glinda, so this is a particularly special piece in her collection. Only 275 of these kits were mailed to creators as part of the promotional campaign. Tori has kept hers untouched and wants to preserve it in pristine condition.
When the makeup was first released, the retail value of the products alone was about $400. According to our expert, the entire case is now worth more, especially because the makeup has been discontinued and only 275 of these kits were produced.
He estimates the complete PR kit is worth about $1,500. That’s a pretty Wicked piece of promotional history!
6. 1939 Wizard of Oz Character String Holders
These are vintage string holders from the 1950s. You could pull the string out to whatever length you needed, then hang the holder on the wall and use it in your kitchen.
In the 1920s and 1930s, string holders were both practical and decorative. But eventually, Scotch tape came along and made them less necessary.
These particular string holders were produced in the 1950s, when The Wizard of Oz was bigger than ever. The Glinda holder is one of the rarest, and Tori found hers at Goodwill. She also has Tin Man and Scarecrow holders.
Most of these pieces have likely been broken or lost over the years, making Tori’s set a rare find.
According to our expert, there are very few of these still floating around, and he values the three holders at $6,000. That’s quite a treasure at the end of the yellow brick road!
