Yeah, there’s no doubt that the viewers and the sponsors would have had a fit! But getting back to Perry and Della…many have said that Erle Stanley Gardner put the kabosh on any romance between the two, while others indicate that Raymond Burr, himself, asked producers and writers to refrain from submitting any such story lines because he was, due to his homosexuality, uncomfortable with it. However, Burr had quite a bit of creative control on “Ironside” and there was often past love interests for the Chief, all of whom he passionately kissed! It’s just a shame that it took Perry and Della 36 years to finally share a kiss!
