People may need to have it pointed out just how much harder it is to surround something in 3D space than on the ground. You can completely surround a vehicle on a planet's surface with just three units, but if it can go either above or below, you need at least four.

10/10. If I remember correctly, this episode won a Hugo Award for best science fiction television script, or something like that.

10/10. Entertaining episode. I've read that Leonard Nimoy adlibbed the line about Tholian punctuality.
The Tholian starships spinning their energy web around the Enterprise was an intriguing concept. However, it took them so long that one wonders how often this tactic could be used against another starship? It would work against a disabled vessel, but a craft that can fight or fly away won't be hampered by such a military move.

10/10. This was a great episode. Hats off to the Writers, Actors and Director, a lot of creativity and in the story. This is truly what makes TOS a masterpiece. I remember how Spock tells McCoy when they were in Kirk's quarters, " Doctor, I am in command".

Cool! Thanks for sharing!
As KJExpress explained, "TOS" means "The Original Series".

It was ALSO the name given to the Vulcan on the left in this photo from 2001's opening episode of the prequel series "Enterprise".

Inside jokes aplenty there. This same scene had Starfleet officers Adm. Forrest, Adm. Leonard and Cdr. Williams. (Referencing DeForest Kelly, Leonard Nimoy and William Shatner.)
That’s clever.

10/10 I thought Capt. Kirk had a good "posthumous" message to Spock and McCoy.

Dr. McCoy (regarding the Klingon nerve gas theragen): ...And in this derivative, mixed with alcohol, it merely deadens certain nerve inputs to the brain.
Scott: Oh, well, any decent brand of Scotch'll do that.
