Do you know all of the words to the Mary Tyler Moore Show theme song?

It'll be stuck in your head for hours after this...

You know it when you hear it, those peppy first chords of the Mary Tyler Moore Show theme song. It's an infectious tune, often heralded as a favorite tune amongst fans.

The original song was written by Sonny Curtis, whose other writing credits include the hits "I Fought the Law" and "More Than I Can Say," which he co-wrote with Jerry Allison. The first season used the first part of the song for its sequence, an indirect reference to how the character will need to learn how to take care of herself now that she was striking out on her own. In seasons two through seven, the second verse of the song is used as the main introduction because it gives a more upbeat impression.

No matter which verse, we want to see if you know the theme song off the top of your head. Can you remember all of the words to the Mary Tyler Moore Show theme song? Good luck!

  1. Let's start from the top: "Who can turn the world on with her [???] ?"
  2. Next: "Who can take a [???] day, and suddenly make it all seem [???] ?"
  3. Keep going: "Well it's [???] girl, and you should know it / With each [???] and every little [???] you show it"
  4. Now the chorus: "[???] is all around, no need to waste it / You can never tell, why don't you [???] it/ You're gonna make it after all"
  5. Alright, now for the second verse: "How will you [???] [???] on your own?"
  6. Next up: "This world is awfully [???], girl this time you're [???] [???]"
  7. This one is tricky: "But it's time you [???] [???] / It's time you let someone else do some [???]"
  8. One more chorus: "Love is all around, no need to waste it / You can never tell, why don't you take it/ You might just [???] [???] after all (x2)"

I should mention that Sonny Curtis, who wrote the song, recorded it, not once but twice...the first time for the Ovation label when the show debuted. It went nowhere then, but when Curtis remade it for Elektra in 1980, it was a Country chart hit.

Though the MTM show happen 5 years after the DVD, Mary looked 10 years younger than Laurie.

A mega hit that spawn a few worthwhile sitcoms like Lou Grant, Rhoda, and Phyllis.

Ummm, someone has filled up the Kool-Aid jug on the conference table again. That quiz made absolutely no sense whatsoever. I got 8 out of 8 anyway. But only because I know the song!

8 out of 8. Yes, over the years the theme song did change as the character changed and grew.
