In relation to question 3, his name was officially Norman Vincent Carter. There is an episode where Gomer is telling Sgt. Carter that he's going to name his first son after him, then says "Norman Vincent Pyle." I'll bet even MeTV didn't know that.

12 of 12. My favorite show growing up. Also, we'd watch in the rec hall while I was in the Marines. Of course then we cracked up on unreal it was to the life in the Corps. LOL
