Only a true 'Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C.' fan can get 10/12 on this quiz

Surprise, surprise, surprise: It's Gomer Pyle pop quiz time!

Gomer Pyle was once just a character created for a single episode of The Andy Griffith Show. The easy charm of his well-intentioned goofiness was too much to resist, though, and the beloved recurring character went on to spin off into a show all his own.

That was Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C., which was a huge ratings hit that never dipped below the Top 10 in Nielsen's ratings. So if you're a huge Gomer Pyle fan, you can expect you're in as good a company as the Marines who made us chuckle throughout the series run.

Think you can rise up in the ranks to confirm your Gomer Pyle expertise? Golly! Then, take the trivia quiz below. Only a true fan can score 10/12. Good luck!

In relation to question 3, his name was officially Norman Vincent Carter. There is an episode where Gomer is telling Sgt. Carter that he's going to name his first son after him, then says "Norman Vincent Pyle." I'll bet even MeTV didn't know that.

I do believe you're right. I think I remember that episode.

Gomer was not a Private First Class for the entire series. In season two, he takes a test to advance to PFC in the episode, "PFC Gomer Pyle."
