What is the best cover song of all time?
Great covers bring back great memories.
Look... We can't include every cover song. That'd be too many choices, and frankly, we don't have all day. So instead, we've compiled what we think is a solid representation of some of the best.
Your job is to choose your favorite. If, for any reason, your favorite isn't included, please choose 'Other,' and then leave a comment with the title and artist. Do us a favor and share any feelings or memories you might have as well. You never know, you could spark a memory in someone else!

SERIOUSLY, Johnny Cash's Hurt ONLY got 4%???? That's NOT ONLY the BEST cover of ALL-TIME but ALSO the BEST music video of ALL-TIME!!
My answer of Johnny Cash Hurt is only 5%. I actually didn't know anyone but him did that song for years until someone told me it was first Nine Inch Nails. ... There's a cover of a Tears for Fears song called Mad World that was covered by Michael Andrews and Gary Jules and that's a very close second to Hurt.
20% similar. My choice is Elton John’s rendition of “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds”. Not many people can outdo The Beatles on one of their songs, but EJ puts even more magic into that song.
Most people I would guess don't know All Along The Watchtower is a cover.
Let's try this again. Why wasn't it posted the first time? I don't understand what could be objectionable about this. If there's anything wrong please let me know.
20%.
I chose "Other" because my all-time favorite cover song is "The Greatest Love of All" by Whitney Houston, from the summer of 1986. George Benson had the original hit version of the song in 1977, which was a Top 40 hit but didn't peak at #1 like Whitney's version did. (Both Whitney Houston's cover of "The Greatest Love of All" and the George Benson original were on the same label, Arista; Benson was actually signed to Warner Records in 1977, but appeared on the soundtrack of "The Greatest," the movie from which Benson's original version came; the soundtrack album of that film was released on Arista.)
Why do I like Whitney's cover of "The Greatest Love of All?" Because it was #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 Pop chart (for a third week) on Sunday, June 1, 1986, the day I received my Bachelor of Science degree from Fairleigh Dickinson University in Teaneck, New Jersey. When you consider the opening lyrics of the song, they seem very timely for a graduation ("I believe the children are our future, teach them well and let them lead the way....").

George Harrison - True Love [Cole Porter][Bing Crosby & Grace Kelly]
Pet Shop Boys - Where the Streets Have No Name (I Can't Take My Eyes Off You) [U2/Frankie Valli]
Pet Shop Boys - Go West [Village People]

Three of my favorite cover versions are: "Take Me Home Country Roads" by Toots and The Maytals (John Denver) that takes the song to a whole new level, "Walk & Don't Look Back" by Peter Tosh with Mick Jagger (The Temptations), and "Well Alright" by Blind Faith (Buddy Holly). Also, Elton John's version of "Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds" by the Beatles. I could go on with so many more...
I got 70% for CCR's "I Heard It Through The Grapevine", but there were several other cover songs by other artists that I also liked. Also, what about CCR's cover version of "I Put a Spell on You." I thought that one was fantastic!
20% similar, and I'm okay with that as I do what I like and don't go along with the crowd. My choice was Disturbed's cover of Simon & Garfunkel's "Sound of Silence."
I just thought of another great cover song not listed. How about Nilsson's cover of the Badfinger song, "Without You".
Harry is the best! Great vocal range and writing talent. Too bad he was ripped off by his manager, stealing $5 million.
