Which came first: This classic TV show or that Rock and Roll Hall of Fame band?

Which came first: Andy or The Beach Boys? Star Trek or Pink Floyd?

A band has to last a long time before it can make the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Musicians are not eligible until 25 years past their first release. That means you have to matter a quarter of a century later. It also means that groups in the Hall of Fame were rocking out long ago.

But how long ago? We picked a handful of famous bands — and a handful of classic TV shows. Going by the date of the band's first record release and the date of the series' premiere, can you tell which came first? Take a guess!
  1. Which is older: Lost in Space or The Rolling Stones?
  2. Which is older: The Andy Griffith Show or The Beach Boys?
  3. Which is older: The Twilight Zone or The Supremes?
  4. Which is older: Knight Rider or U2?
  5. Which is older: The Mod Squad or Fleetwood Mac?
  6. Which is older: M*A*S*H or Rush?
  7. Which is older: Miami Vice or Metallica?
  8. Which is older: ALF or Beastie Boys?
  9. Which is older: Star Trek or Pink Floyd?
  10. Which is older: The Mary Tyler Moore Show or KISS?
  11. Which is older: Pee Wee's Playhouse or Red Hot Chili Peppers?

Which came first: This classic TV show or that Rock and Roll Hall of Fame band?

7 out of 11. Never knew the Beasties had a release in '83...I just assumed that "Fight For Your Right to Party" was their first record since that was the first time I'd heard of them.

6/11. Surprised a lot of these bands were a lot older than I thought. Fleetwood Mac in particular.

Yikes! Got only 7 out of 11. This was a tough quiz especially since most the shows/people were only a year apart

A quiz like this is going by official firsts but "Star Trek" already had a Color Pilot, With Jeffrey Hunter as Captain etc., ready to go by summer '64 and was intended to start at the Classic half season in January '65 for example so in real life as to what really was first would be quite the different answer then the criterion for this quiz!

Pink Floyd formed in 1965.

You got 10 out of 11
Well, did you make the trivia Hall of Fame? Some of these are pretty surprising, no? Miss the Fleetwood Mac.

The "Fleetwood Mac" question is a trick question. The 1967 version of the band was "Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac" they were a blues band with 3 lead guitarists. The well known version of "Fleetwood Mac" with John and Christine McVie didn't come about until 1970 after Peter Green left the band.

No, they were still called "Fleetwood Mac". Their second album, Mr. Wonderful, came out in 1968 and was labelled as by "Fleetwood Mac". Peter Green didn't want to be the center of attention; that's one of the reasons why he named the band after his rhythm section (even though John McVie wasn't the bassist...yet...when he named the band). Also, the 1967 version only had 2 guitarists; Danny Kirwan didn't show up until '69's "Then Play On".

Fleetwood Mac was named after the original founder, Mick Fleetwood, NOT Peter Green. I don't know where you folks got your information from, but you're WRONG!!

If you chose "Rush" for #6 you are actually correct! Rush was formed in 1968, not 1973 as the question says.

But their first album was ' 73. Seems like a long time for a first release.

Good point - I missed that whole caveat. D'oh!
