Who sang these novelty hits?

You've heard 'em. Who sang 'em?

Novelty songs are hard to pin down. What makes them different from one-hit wonders? Do they always have to be funny? Does parody count?

For starters, a novelty song is rarely concerned with revolutionizing the industry. They're not recorded in hopes of being the next Beatles. Typically, they're one-off tunes with humor at their center. Sometimes, they're built around a gimmick, or maybe even some piece of cultural ephemera.

However you decide to define novelty songs, you know one when you hear one. And you've probably heard most of these! But do you remember who sang which one? Find out here with this quiz that's just for you. Be sure to share your thoughts and your score in the comment section below!

  1. "I've Got a Lovely Bunch of Coconuts" for Freddy Martin and His Orchestra. Which game show host provided the track's vocals?
  2. Although we never learned the actual price, we do know that the first and most successful recording of "(How Much Is) That Doggie in the Window?" was sung by this singer...
  3. Which singer's 1952 #1 recording of "I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus" was condemned by the Roman Catholic Church of Boston?
  4. Which of the following acts asked the important question, "Who wears short shorts?"
  5. "Witch Doctor" is a 1958 American novelty song written and performed by Ross Bagdasarian under which stage name?
  6. Saxophonist Plas Johnson plays a saxophone solo on which artist's "Flying Purple People Eater?"
  7. Speaking of saxophone, who released "Yakety Yak" in 1958?
  8. Who told us of an "Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie Yellow Polkadot Bikini" in 1960?
  9. "Monster Mash" is a Halloween staple. Who served it up?
  10. "Hello Muddah, Hello Fadduh (A Letter from Camp)" was released by which singer/satirist?

Who sang these novelty hits?

You got 9 out of 10
There's nothing 'novel' about your fandom; we bet you've been an expert for a long time!

Come one come all to the MeTv Friday Night Movie Quiz.
Where everyone can take a guess or make comments to other quizzers.
There will be extra bonus movies for just coming by. Including entertainment for all. Feel free to ask questions, copy movie links and just plain join in the fun via communication. The MQ will be up until the movie is guessed and an hour to look over and pick out what you wish. Have fun doing so. There are no wrong answers but the first one to guess the correct movie gets their names put up for getting it correctly. Good luck and enjoy. See you @ Can you name all these TV shows featuring Don Knotts?

It doesn’t matter…the one you did is fantastic! I’m glad the pic I sent came out clear. Sometimes the IPad won’t take a good one (probably coz of lighting) LOL. Or the operator 😂🤣

Hi Tex. If it's not too much trouble, do you think you could find a movie for me? I wanted to compare "Abe Lincoln in Illinois" to a couple other Lincoln movies I've seen. It's from 1940. I'd have to pay to see it on YouTube and I'm not going to do that. No big deal if you can't find it. Thanks!

Hi there everyone! I’m just checking in…We have had 100+ temps (not including H.I.) here and will continue for next 7 to 9 days 😳🥵 Dog Days of summer are real!
How awful! At least we get rain mixed in with our heat. And we don't get temps over 100 as a rule. Topping off at mid-90's mostly.

Maybe this will cool you a bit. 🥶💦🏊‍♀️🍉🍨🧊🌧🌊
Thank you 🤗 Much appreciated!
100 here too over the next 10 days. 86 at midnight 80 at 7 A.M.
Yep! Looks like we’re in the same Club 👀
