It takes a great deal of energy to keep up with six young kids, but Ann B. Davis was more than up to the task.

Davis was one of the few adults cast on The Brady Bunch. There, she played Alice Nelson, the Brady family’s live-in housekeeper, as well as a frequent confidante and friend.

On a series where the children frequently outnumber the adults on set, it’s a wonder to many that the show never descended into chaos. Well, according to Davis, the actors playing the Brady children were well-mannered and responsible. They enjoyed a rare acting opportunity while still maintaining their childhood.

“Our kids on the how are treated as responsible actors - which they are - and they don’t compete with us,” said Davis during an interview with The Atlanta Journal. “When it’s time for them to work, they work; when it’s time for them to play, they play - just as any other normal kids would do.”

While Davis certainly wasn’t as young as some of her co-stars, she was certainly young at heart. The actor delighted in performing. Previously a star on programs like The Bob Cummings Show, she never lost her love and dedication to performing.

For Davis, acting was less of a job and more of a passion. This was most likely the reason why she admitted she had no thoughts on retiring anytime soon.

“As far as retirement is concerned, I really haven’t even considered it,” said the actor. “What could I possibly find to do in retirement that is as much fun as what I’m doing now? Nothing, that’s what.”
