After playing June Cleaver for six years on the original Leave It to Beaver series, Barbara Billingsley has certainly earned the right to have any opinion she likes about the series. For the most part, Billingsley loved the series that she starred in, although it wasn't immune to criticism.

Of course, plenty of critics have made their negative feelings regarding Leave It to Beaver known, criticizing the series for being too utopian, too perfect to ever be considered realistic.

However, those who have raised kids, like Billingsley, understood that plenty of the plots in Leave It to Beaver were actual issues that parents frequently dealt with when raising children. The reality was, Billingsley and June Cleaver were fairly similar, except Billingsley was just a few steps ahead.

"Sometimes I think June is stupid, and then I realize that I have already been through these stages with my own sons," said the actor during an interview with the Los Angeles Evening Citizen News. "Drew, who is in college, and Brud, who is in high school. I think 13 is a terrible age."

Although Billingsley enjoyed her time on Leave It to Beaver, it wasn't a show that she felt had the longevity to last her entire career. However, she was content with the series, for the time being. "Occasionally, after three years, I think I might like to give up the series. And then I realized I would have to change my whole way of life. My family is geared to my present schedule. So, I hope it will stay on the air."
