Success in Hollywood doesn’t last forever, no matter how popular an actor’s last role was. Although Burt Ward entranced audiences in his role on Batman, the character was not enough to guarantee lasting success in the television industry.

During an interview with the Niagara Falls Review, Ward revealed that after Batman ended, he struggled to find a new role.

“Hollywood closed its doors to me,” said Ward.

But while Ward had lost his place in Hollywood, he was still well-loved by those who had previously watched him on the superhero series. The actor frequently appeared at meet-and-greets and conventions for comic book and television fans. “Fortunately, the rest of the country still wanted to see me,” said Ward. “I was still hot everywhere, and I still am. I did my personal appearances, and I did some plays, and I did well.”

Moreover, while Batman provided Ward with consistent success, he wasn’t particularly interested in being known as the Boy Wonder his entire life.

“It wasn’t really that traumatic,” Ward said of the show’s cancellation during an interview with the News and Record. “You have to understand that the ego wasn’t really there because when you’re working on the show, you don’t have time. I made 137 of the shows, so you can imagine how much of my life was spent on that soundstage. And Adam and I used to say that we put on our tights to put on the world. I really didn’t want it to be over in a way, but in another way, it was a relief. I needed a long rest to recuperate. It was a nice breather.”
