Carol Burnett said she was ''fortunate'' that her work never interfered with her private life
"Actually, I've been very lucky," said Burnett
To head your own television show is no easy task; it takes hard work and a whole lot of responsibility. If anything were to go wrong, it's you're name in the title, and you're the one shouldering the responsibility, whether it's your fault or not.
For Carol Burnett, her name in the title of her show wasn't what made her a star; it was her knack for comedy that established her comedic credentials.
Although working on a variety show like The Carol Burnett Show was difficult at times, Burnett looked back on her time in the series fondly. During an interview, the actor claimed she had the best of both worlds; she was fortunate enough to enjoy the life of a celebrity without finding fame at the expense of a personal life.
"Actually, I've been very lucky," said Burnett in an interview with the Newspaper Enterprise Association. "When I look at Carol Burnett and Friends, I'm reminded of the wonderful fun we all had - Harvey, Vicki, Tim, and Lyle. Even with all we had to do, we all managed to enjoy an outside life. But then, I've always been fortunate in that my work had never interfered with my family."
With a husband and three children, Burnett ensured that she and her family were able to enjoy a relatively normal home life.
"I figured out that my average work week took up twenty-nine hours," said Burnett. "I didn't have to leave for the studio until my children were off to school, and, with the exception of Fridays when we taped, I was home by five o'clock."
