Jaclyn Smith: ''I'm not a prima donna.''
Perhaps "Angel" was an apt description for the actor.
Though Hollywood stars are more often than not considered heavenly bodies by many fans. For some reason, audiences look to film and television stars and see someone superhuman. This is despite the fact that most actors have more in common with a layperson than they may assume.
For many television viewers, Charlie’s Angels was more fantasy than reality. Centered upon three beautiful but tough officers who use their brains to stop evil-doers, the series took no issue with veering into absurdity at times. Still, the series was well received by audiences and ran for five years. Throughout all of this, actor Jaclyn Smith remained a constant on the series. Smith played Kelly Garrett, the only agent who remained an Angel for the entirety of the series.
Though the series made her a star, Smith didn’t necessarily see herself as a member of the Hollywood elite. During an interview, the actor confessed that she had her own fair share of flaws, just like everyone else.
“I’m not a slick Hollywood person,” said Smith during an interview with The Boston Globe. “I’m not a prima donna, I treat everyone the same. And I’m not flamboyant. I’m serious...too serious sometimes, I get so involved.”
Smith was also well aware of the reputation that Charlie’s Angels had gained during its five-season run. “Oh, there are a million pretty girls,” said the actor. “Charlie’s Angels is a lot of flash and fluff. I suppose I have something that makes me stand apart...I was brought up to believe that pretty is as pretty does.”
