John Forsythe admitted he was glad to move on from Charlie's Angels
The actor was a man of many talents.
Though he was the voice behind the Angels, John Forsythe was so much more than his work on Charlie’s Angels.
Forsythe provided the voice of Charlie from the titular Charlie’s Angels. Though he never made an appearance, Forsythe’s voice became iconic.
However, Forsythe was a well-accomplished actor before and after his voice appeared on the popular series. Not only was he an actor in films like The Trouble with Harry (1955) and It Happens Every Thursday (1953), but he also starred in the hit soap opera, Dynasty.
“I’ve never really considered myself a soaring type of talent as an actor,” said Forsythe during an interview with The Standard-Star. “I consider myself a vastly usable actor, not monumentally talented, and I’m not being overly modest because that’s the way I feel.”
Working on Dynasty offered Forsythe an opportunity to better himself as an actor. While he enjoyed his time on Charlie’s Angels, he admitted that the role became a crutch after a while. Forsythe wanted an opportunity to perform.
“My feeling is that I should keep working on projects that have some value, and I thought that this project, with all its pitfalls, was good for me. It was good for me to no longer be the voice on Charlie’s Angels, but to put myself on the line. And that’s why I’m involved in this and why I have moved from light comedy to more meaningful, more challenging kind of stuff.”
